Are Bang and Olufsen turntables any good?
Years ago I heard a malicious rumor that B&O turntables actually damage the vinyl played on them irreparably.Any truth to this? If so I'm in BIG trouble. A great deal of vinyl was damaged in the 70s and 80s (when B&O was big), but it wasn'...
Bent Stylus- Clearaudio Virtuoso
It should be checked out by a qualified dealer or Clearaudio. Playing this way could easily damage your vinyl, which is presumably worth a lot more than a cartridge... I wouldn't risk it.

I've never heard/seen the Sanyo, but at a minimum it should maintain constant and accurate speed better than a 40yo Garrard 40 Mkii that's been sitting idle. The rubber drive wheel in the Garrard will almost certainly have developed flat spots and...
Removing Morch DP-6 tonearm wires from cartridge
Excellent point about attracting dust. I wouldn't bother. If the boots disintegrate you can color code each wire with a dab of nail polish. Buy four colors. You'll need less than a drop of each and can go wild on your nails with the rest!Another to...
VTA adjustment for an RB600
As several have noted, if you're just looking for a starting point then any reasonable point will do. Armwand level is reasonable. Bottom of cartridge parallel to record surface is reasonable. Spending 4 hours with a microscope and spot light is.....
Idler drive turntables
My Dual 1229 had that same dual-spindle option. I only used the stacking feature when spinning for frat parties (with other guys' records, lol).

Nice amp and speakers! They are capable of better sound than you'll ever get from those vinyl rigs. Improving your vinyl front end is definitely a good move.Having limited funds, you'll get more bang for your buck from a used rig than a new one. T...
Help for a vinyl novice
Congrats... and enjoy! It sounds like you made a sound decision for sound reasons. :-)Yes, the quality of tonearm wire has a significant impact on sound quality (more so with a LOMC than MM). Upgrading those wires is one of many tweaks that vinylp...
Help for a vinyl novice
Agree with Dgarretson. The LP-12 is a fussy, sensitive thing that requires either deep knowledge or deep pockets to perform well. $1K won't get you far with a Linn dealer, and a newbie's inexperience would be sorely tested by the LP-12's ficklenes...
Rega RP6 VTA issue
Good responses, with Onhwy61's being especially fair and balanced. Zavato's assertion that, "Setting the VTA should be a one time thing once the cartridge is installed..." would have been better stated as a matter of individual sensibilities and p...
New $35K pivoting tonearm
Agree with Syntax that the primary function of this arm's price is to attract attention... which we are providing. ;-)Disagree on the viability of wood as an armwand material, and windy hyperbole will not blow it out of the room.Energy transfer is...
New $35K pivoting tonearm
Everybody has an opinion that they are so willing to share, yet apparently nobody has any experience with the tonearm. Tell me what you know about the product! At $35K I won't hold my breath waiting for a critical mass of reviews....interesting fea...
Andy Kim - Needle Clinic
Bif, I can't speak for Lyra, but some stylus profiles do maintain a useable shape without serious sonic degradation longer than other shapes. The worst case would be a conical stylus (which has a spherical cross section across the groove contact po...
TriPlanar Tips
Thanks, Atmasphere. One clarifier... when loosening/tightening that large screw, use your free hand to hold the arm by the VTA tower and frame, NOT THE tonearm itself (which could stress or damage the bearings). Obvious to some, but better a cauti...
Brinkmann Bardo and Tri-Planar VII-U armrest issue
When I first discussed it with him (8-9 years ago) his position was that this was not a user adjustment and touching it would invalidate the warranty. I can't imagine why, it's easy and really can't hurt anything if done properly (which the manual...
