Zyx Universe. O.24 mv vs .48 mv with low eff spkrs
Lewm, that's exactly what I was saying. Further, I'm confident that Tom's Doshi Alaap (phono + line preamp) has (or at least had) ample gain for a .24mv ZYX. You heard the UNIverse/Alaap combo at the home of our mutual friend and your neighbor, Mi...
audiophile help needed in CT
Yogiboy, we're almost neighbors... Bloomfield here.I'll repeat Altaylorwood's post... please describe the problem. I know my way around a vinyl rig but I'm not a Linnie. Knowing what you're trying to fix or deal with would be helpful.
Phono cartridge grading
To heck with Yogiboy's request for output voltage. What we really need is the color of each cartridge. That's critical information for WAF-challenged buyers. This list would be soooo much more useful with that.Jmcgrogan2... CONGRATULATIONS!!! Me too!
Zyx Universe. O.24 mv vs .48 mv with low eff spkrs
Tom,Many thoughts and questions...Can you give a bit more info? Has this need to crank up the gain come on gradually over time? Or is this suddenly out of nowhere? Are you sure some tubes aren't going? Have you tried swapping in new phono stage or ...
Have you found reliable online used vinyl vendors?
Learsfool,Maybe Ebm's just like a fisherman with a favorite spot. "There's nothin' here! Go away! Don't waste your time! (Bwah-ha-hah!)"Classical listeners may be less prone to spinning records when, um... influenced by certain substances. Being a...
Got an LP cleaner you want to make money on?
Altaylorwood,Totally agree with your premise. I've no interest in providing a mail-in service (lack of time, real job, etc.). But I'm very open to local (CT area) vinylphiles visiting to use my RCM. ***Liz, Your casual, fun approach is just as val...
Got an LP cleaner you want to make money on?
As you've never cleaned a new record it's meaningless to say, "it sounds great"? You have no basis for comparison. If this is the first time you've heard of this, you haven't spent much time reading forums like this one. Not that anyone would blame...
Got an LP cleaner you want to make money on?
With respect to the OP, who admits he has little experience, all records should be cleaned - including new ones. There is no significant risk if proper techniques are used. There is, however, a real risk of vinyl damage from playing uncleaned reco...
Have you found reliable online used vinyl vendors?
I've bought over 3,000 mint classical LP's on ebay. By "mint" I mean good-as-new, apparently never played, some still sealed. If you can't find them I'd be willing to assist... for a small fee. ;-)
Got an LP cleaner you want to make money on?
I'd be willing to have vinyl-philes in CT rent time on my Loricraft PRC-3. Cleaning fluids and instructions regarding best practices could be part of the deal. Flexible terms! Maybe even "FREE" if you clean one of my LP's (to my standards) for eac...
Sheffield Lab
The CEO of a company where I spent 25 years was invited to give a kickoff speech for an internal training course on Process Improvement. He was brief. "I'm sure you're all very good at what you do... or I wouldn't have hired you. [audience laughs]...
Have you found reliable online used vinyl vendors?
Joe,Ya gotta love those generalized overstatements. Whether positive or negative they're often absurdly funny, each is a gem of Excruciatingly Bouncy Myopia. ;-)
Wet Cleaning the Stylus
Lewm,Very good question, which Fjn04 addressed nicely. Others do the same or similar for just the reason you noted, including my ex (who first discovered/gleaned/invented this use for the ME). DIYAudio folks prefer to use a penny. Audiogoners tend...
Wet Cleaning the Stylus
First, some cartridge manufacturers will void their warranty if liquid cleaning is used. Be aware of the provisions of YOUR cartridge's warranty before you do it. Nandric's post above was spot on with regard to one risk. If a stylus is attached wi...
JC3+ Anyone?
Great summary by Lewm.Having done that many times with many cartridges, I eventually learned that I could adjust azimuth just as well, and far more quickly, by listening.Choose LPs (ideally mono) that have a higher register instrument or voice (th...
