Test LP's Worth it?
You don't need to drop $299, but do consider spending $110 for a Mint protractor (or similar, except that AFAIK there is nothing similar - Wally Tractors being difficult to get). The Mint is worth its price. Most owners report audible improvements...
Anti static guns
Ebuzz, I've never used a grounded brush. My Zerostat works fine so I've had no occasion. With a name like yours, I'd assume you'd be the expert!
Anti static guns
Thanks, Dan. That sounds like it. I only learned of it AFTER I'd tossed my first one... drat. My second one continues to function correctly.Brf is correct. To function, the Zerostat's trigger must be pulled s-l-o-w-l-y.
Anti static guns
An "anti-static" brush can only reduce static if it's grounded. Without a conductive path from the bristles to ground, the friction between bristles and LP will increase static, not reduce it. Don't throw your Zerostat away. Years ago someone here...
Test LP's Worth it?
I've owned the HFN&RR test record for about ten years. It hasn't left its sleeve in the last five and I've set up dozens of cartridges on multiple arms without it. If I connected a cartridge with the channels reversed or out of phase (did that...
Second Cartridge With Transfiguration Phoenix
The local ZYX distributor can order from Sorasound if he wishes. There are many non-American UNIverse owners, including several who participate on this forum. Good luck with whatever you choose!
Second Cartridge With Transfiguration Phoenix
The UNIverse II is a current production model. All UNIverses are exclusive to SORAsound, I imagine that's why it's not on the ZYX site. The exclusivity is Nakatsuka-san's way of honoring Mehran for providing the seed funding, as noted in my review ...
Second Cartridge With Transfiguration Phoenix
I second Jmcgrogan2's thought on the ZYX UNIverse II X-SB. It meets your description ("...neutral, organic sound with a deep and wide soundstage, I do not prefer a specific bandwith dominating the test, I like details without sacrificing musicalit...

Aesthetix Rhea or Manley Steelhead
I hosted the shootout mentioned by Swampwalker and second his report. The owner of the Rhea put it up for sale the next day and ordered a Doshi Alaap. In fairness, an Alaap phono stage retails for ~2-3X the Rhea so it should be better and it is......
New to turntables - does this gear combo work?
As the OP happily admits he has virgin ears and isn't (yet!) caught up in the need for ever-better sound, the simple answer to his question would appear to be a mix of Swampwalker's and Yogiboy's posts. If the Audioengine A2 powered speakers can pr...
periphery ring clamps worth money
It depends on the rig and the system as a whole. The more help your TT needs to sink vibations away from the record and/or the more resolving the system, the more difference you'll probably hear.On my Teres 265/OL Silver, a ring made a sonic impro...
Will Grace F9 Cart work with Rega RB250 tonearm?
I haven't heard the F9 (in any version) so take this FWIW...First and foremost, ask Soundsmith what the compliance will be on an F9 with their OCL Ruby cantilever. That's crucial information.I believe some stock F9s were highly compliant cartridge...
Record clamps: do they really make a difference.
Actually, a heavy weight will make a noisy bearing run quieter. It may, but it's also a sonic band-aid that's unlikely to be the optimal mechanical approach. Some TT bearings have inherently sloppy tolerances and need grease. Others have tight tole...
Record clamps: do they really make a difference.
Bdgregory, It's equally true that if you have the right clamp, a mat may not be beneficial. :-)That's the case with my Teres, for instance. Which approach is best, and which particular device is best, depends on the rig, system characteristics as ...
