SME 20/2 SME V or Triplanar VII?
Dgad,The very low impedance values Thom is discussing assume the use of stepup transformers. When I used stepups I also used sub-100 ohm values, and found that great precision was necessary to optimize the performance of any LOMC.FWIW, our new hig...
SME 20/2 SME V or Triplanar VII?
SirSpeedy,Why not just buy a used amp, here or on ebay, then sell it when the Rowland comes back? It would probably net out at virtually zero cost.
SME 20/2 SME V or Triplanar VII?
SirSkimpy,We're all easily distracted by "fairly asses", especially if they're "sporting analog threads". Analog threads follow natural waveforms more realistically, as I'm sure you appreciate.
SME 20/2 SME V or Triplanar VII?
Tim summarized the synergy topic nicely and Flyingred provided some excellent details. (See, no flames!)SirSpeedy,Give us details and a name and address. We'll all post letters to Rowland, inquiring about power supply upgrades. Maybe that will get...
SME 20/2 SME V or Triplanar VII?
Raul,Excellent question/suggestion re: arm/cartridge matching. We should have asked that earlier.Jtimothya,Thanks for the update on the SME Vd with azimuth-adjustable headshell. That seems like an excellent solution, which I was unaware of. (The t...
Has Anyone Ever Combined Tonearm Wire?
Slowhand,I have a TriPlanar VII with Discovery wire from cartridge clips to phono plugs. Do you recommend I cut it off, install a junction box and use Valhalla from there? ;-)Just kidding! We do use Valkyrja I/C's between preamp and power amp and ...
I need HELP with my LP12 based system
I'm sorry that it sounds harsh, but I'm with Flyingred. His reasons are my reasons. Thsalmon,You have a Simon Yorke table on order. That's a fairly good move IMO. Why not preach what you practice?
SME 20/2 SME V or Triplanar VII?
Another vote for the TriPlanar. As Nsgarch said, today's top cartridges respond to very precise adjustments in every parameter. Few arms can match the TriPlanar in its ability to optimize every aspect of setup. The better and more resolving the sy...
My digital front end outdoes my analog.....
I do want to improve my vinyl playback, especially image/soundstage.....this is why I started the post.Matching or beating CD for imaging, soundstaging (and bass) is possible. This is true whether your CDP cost $1K, $5K or even $15K. As has been p...
I need HELP with my LP12 based system
Pscialli,Nice system. The cartridge may be responsible (I'm not familiar with it) but I suspect the weak link in the chain is the entire analog rig. The LP12 was a category leader 23 years ago. It no longer is, and hasn't been for quite some time....
Stylus Force Guages - why extreme accuracy?
Peter_s,Having one's stylus 1/2 inch higher or lower than the record surface would have a HUGE impact on sonics, namely, there wouldn't be any! ;-)To respond seriously, we've discussed various explanations for the audibility of SRA/VTA adjustment ...
So...What do you listen to in your car?
At home I listen to the music at 33 1/3 In my car I listen to the music at 9,500ZOOM-ZOOM!
Stylus Force Guages - why extreme accuracy?
Sdcampbell,Me three. Both VTF and VTA/SRA can be fine tuned by listening, assuming your rig and ears are interested of course. :-) Lloyd Walker's well-written guidelines are worth reading: http://www.walkeraudio.com/fine_tuning_your_turntable.htmF...
setting the azimuth
Peter_s,Go to this site and scroll down to the fourth photo for one pretty simple way to shim for azimuth:http://www.simplyblack.net/WVC/Technical_F_wally.htmThe tape makes azimuth adjustment quite simple. Just alter the tension on the mounting sc...
setting the azimuth
Exactly what 4yanx said, rough in by eye, fine-tune by ear.He and I once shared ownership of a Wally Analog Shop, which adjusts azimuth by letting you measure and minimize crosstalk. It worked very well, but I found I could do just as well by list...
