VAC Phono in Avatar Super
I would love to know how the Vac's phono stage stacks up against some of the well known brands out there.I have demoed the VAC Renaissance (full-function preamp) in my system. I don't know how close the Avatar comes to that, but the Renaissance do...
Analog vs. CDP: A fair comparison?
Excellent advice from Maineiac re: buying used. Audiogon and ebay give us ways to audition stuff with small financial risk. For example, we recently upgraded our I/C's and speaker cables to a level we might never have reached if we'd had to buy ne...
Analog vs. CDP: A fair comparison?
Billt1,In one sense there is no reason to "worry" about a $3K investment in analogue. Vinyl repays significant investments much more convincingly than digital. But the flip side is also true. Unless you're a skilled DIY-er, vinyl needs more put in...
Help ...... excesssssssive sssssssssssssssssssss
I assume this problem happens only on vinyl? If so, phono input impedance too high is a possibility.
Restoration Suite vs. Restoration Bundle
Some test records have unmodulated grooves. The Cardas record is one.Of course every LP has blank grooves in the runout area. Using those to set up your noise profile would be ideal. Different LP's have different vinyl formulations and therefore d...
distortion at the end of record
Jrw40,This phenomenon is well known and is usually called "inner groove distortion" (clever, huh?!). It exists not because of compression - which would actually tend to relieve the problem - but because the progressive shortening of inner grooves ...
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
Can anybody offer their experiences on how long it takes a group of audiophiles to agree on whether a cartridge is any good? I've heard anywhere from 5 years to 100 years or more. ;-)
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
Larry,Tell your friend that for a Denon 103 (or 103R) on a Rega, Twl's HIFI mod is an absolute must.$5 and 30 minutes will turn his $400 arm into a $1000 one. I've done it. It works.http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1032024188&...
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
Psychicanimal,Your post is the first time I've heard that theory. Can you elaborate? Something to do with a small contact patch and resultant high psi's? Or... ?Doug
Analog vs. CDP: A fair comparison?
Pawlowski612,Thanks for providing more info on where you're coming from, and where you'd like to go. That helps alot.Your lack of a significant LP collection argues against jumping into vinyl in a serious way, since you have little experience with...
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
Larry,Sorry to be so slow, you cheapskate!I like the 103/103R too. IMO it is one of the great bargains in cartridges. Lots of honest music for a very reasonable price. You have to spend several times more to do much better.
Where can I get replacement screws for Dynavector?

SME 20/2 SME V or Triplanar VII?
Thom's right about dual paralleled resistors, which I did use extensively with my stepups. The math is easy though. Dgad,My MC phono stage is also solid state, so those numbers should put you in the same ballpark as me. (One possible difference is...
