Linear Tracking Turntables - Best??
I have used a VPI JMW 10, since 2000 (after SME’s, Triplanars and many others). Properly setup (which few owners seem to get) I have never heard inner groove distortion, or any harshness, on any of my 2000 Lps. That is just my experience, YMMV. On...
Is Maggie 20.1 still overall better than 3.7?
Subs and Magnepans are are subjective taste, and YMMV.I prefer the 6 footers over the smaller versions, in a big way, after listening to the MG IIa, IIIa, and 3.6 every day, for 40 years, in 8 different rooms. I know what I like. Bigger panels giv...
CARTRIDGE WOES?
@frankmarsi:Sorry to be critical, it was not personal, but this is the internet, and you must have a thick skin or be gone.My quote was in regard to the latest and greatest vs older equipment, not ancient audio equipment that was obsolete 40 years...
CARTRIDGE WOES?
Phase Linear, Carver, AR from the 70's was not even the best, 40 years ago!   LOL!The Lyra is current and "beyond" anything from the 70's!I do not think you even know even know what the Lyra sounds like, using your hopelessly out of date equipment...
Is Maggie 20.1 still overall better than 3.7?
Subs NEVER mate perfectly with planars. The sonic transition from panel to cone is always heard IMO!
Where do you guys buy tubes?
Tube World for rare exotic NOS!No regrets ever!
Platter upgrade for VPI MkIV?
I like the TNT MK III platter best, of all the VPI platters.Cork, lead, aluminum, with acrylic top layer.  Oil well bearing, machined to perfection, that lasts forever.  No tilt or run out, spins true.  Simple, effective.Indented center, with wash...
Is Maggie 20.1 still overall better than 3.7?
Yes, and the 3.6 is better than the 3.7i IMO.Warmer midrange, with lower bass response.Mark Winey squashed the xover to fit inside the speaker.  Stupid move.
Retired audiophile?
You are part of the "VAST" majority of audio lovers, not on the internet!Enjoy the life you have left!
Magneplanar .7 speakers. Have you heard or own them??
Solution :1) Use them in a small room any way - I have, and they work well.2) Keep your wife out of the room.
How long should it take a platter to get up to speed?
Long enough to brush the record and clean the stylus!
How do you prepare for a record show?
How do you prepare when shopping at used record stores? How do you prepare when grocery shopping in a supermarket?
Has biwire speaker cabling become "old" ?
Biwiring is BS!   Most of the time, no audible improvement IMO.Been there, tried it.
Magneplanar .7 speakers. Have you heard or own them??
I suggest you hunt down a mint pair of used MGIIIa's for $800-1000.The 6 foot maggies  have bass, tone, resolution, and frequency response that the shorter ones do not!Your amp has enough power IMO.
recabling my Stax sr-009 to pure copper cable
Try a different driver amp!Do not screw with the cable!
