recommendation for phono pre amp and mc cartridge, around 1000$ each
For $1000, I think you'll find the Nagaoka MP-500 will give any similar price MC a run for its money. And it allows you to have a greater selection of phono stages to choose from, since it works with an MM input.

I’ll try out my forbidden link: https://www.youtube.com/@bigclivedotcom/search?query=ioniser It worked! Thanks for the tip.
Turntable advice
Always buy something that will push you to upgrade something else. Otherwise you have to upgrade both in the future.
Inexpensive turntable to play old records
Damn! Where did RadioShack go when we need them? Super cheap turntables for old records that must be played with no other consideration. Worked for me in 1985.
CANNOT POST LINKS !!!!! Who Else _________________??????????
I tried a few days ago to insert a link to a YouTuber who has taken apart many ionisers, some of which might be suitable for use on a turntable. I got the "Blocked" screen. I find this forum to be the most serious when it comes to all things viny...
Vinyl static ionizers who's used them?
Big Clive on YouTube has deconstructed many ionisers, some real and some fake. I don’t think they have to be very expensive or complicated to actually work. I'd post a link to a serach of his videos on the subject, but each time I try Audiogon te...
Turntable prices. Is my mind going?
I'm probably not alone in thinking that a cheaper vinyl rig carefully set up by someone who knows what he is doing is likely to sound far better than the most expensive one to be found set up by someone who does not. But if that dreadfully expensi...
Turntable Isolation
@grislybutter I believe that method lets only Good Vibrations through....though you have to do the concentric circles with a tiny rake in the right direction.
Found a Milty Zerostat alternative
@lewm If you're feeling a little brave, put your finger near the Zerostat's "muzzle" and click it. You'll feel a little shock and probably see a little spark jump to your finger. That's what happens with mine, bought around 2006.
Brand New Vinyl Static and Pops
We do seem to attract some visitors whose answer to any vinyl issue is that we should stream our music. I confess I find this irritating, but there again, that is probably the purpose of their trolling.
Brand New Vinyl Static and Pops
1. No 2. Good 3. Extended usage 4. Yes Brand new vinyl may be noisy, even with a new stylus. It might need cleaning (yes, even if new) or it might be a bad pressing where even cleaning it thoroughly will not help. In that case it should be ret...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
It took two albums this morning for me to change my mind and get up and swap the London Reference and the BM LP-S, moving the former on to the V and the latter on to the IV. Set the VTF, adjusted the overhang, set the anti-skate and rechecked the ...
TONEARM DAMPING : DAMPED OR NOT ? ? USELESS ? ? WELCOMED ? ?
Thanks, Raul. I need to hear those differences rather than see them on paper to know if they are significant. And SME silicon is 60cS rather than 10, which I assume is a significant difference. I shall have to experiment some more, but it should w...
Advice and recommendations needed for a turntable rig...
I can change a cartridge and set up the replacement in twenty minutes. If I change the headshell on the one tonearm I have that uses interchangeable headshells, it takes about 10-15 minutes including the set-up of the new cartridge (the SME 309 he...
Inflation being tracked in the UK with vinyl records
Does the UK include food, housing and energy in the statistics? From the article linked: The ONS tracks price changes of more than 700 goods and services to produce a monthly snapshot of inflation in the UK economy. It updates the items inclu...
