Devore or Harbeths to replace my ESL63s?
You have obviously thought this through carefully and have narrowed the field to two VERY good speakers that nearly hit the mark in every area important to you. I owned the Compact 7's for many years and enjoyed them greatly. I've heard just about...
New Springsteen Box: Opinions?
Got it yesterday at Princeton Record Exchange. Thanks for chiming in--I'll do the same after a listen.
Esoteric X-03se vs K-03
I can't offer any assistance but will follow the thread as I have pondered the same question after owning the X-03SE for a number of years now and have wondered what, if anything, the K-03 would do in my system. We seem to have similar tastes…so w...
What cables are you running with your ARC gear
I've had a variety of ARC equipment over the years and have had good luck with Empirical Design cables. The interconnects are particularly good--very neutral, flexible and harmonically correct. Best of luck!
Old VPI Scout: Cartridge Help
I'm using the same table and used several of the 20X series Dynavectors before going with a AT OC9MLII at the suggestion of Keith Herron, who designed my phono stage. Wonderful match for the VPI Scout/JMW9. There is one that just came up for sale ...
Help picking a tube preamp, please
Second the Herron VTSP-3Ar02. Best pre I have owned by far and meets all of your stated criteria. Low or high gain setting combined with volume steps allow very fine gradations of volume adjustment. I'm using very high efficiency speakers and have...
VPI new stuff...
Hey Mat: I've been a Scout owner for many years now and nothing has tempted me away from it until I got a glimpse of the Prime. Can I ask two questions?:1. What is the effective mass of the 3D arm and what would be the optimal compliance range? I'...
Refined SS Stereo pwr amps under 10K?
While I have not heard the DS225 I did own a series of ARC solid state amps (100.2, 150.2, SD135) before moving to a Modwright KWA150SE. In my system it was far superior to the ARC amps. In my system it does all the things on your wish list. Wheth...
Buiding listening room from scratch - need advice
If prior experience with home renovation is any guide I would suggest you wait until the project is done before you do anything. First, unless you have an unlimited supply of money you may end up with a lot less money for gear than you think due t...
First Table Setup: Org. VPI Scout
If you don't have a Soundsmith "Counterintuitive" my tip for getting the VTF and azmuith (sp?) correct is to get the VTF close but a little heavier than what is recommended. Then swivel the counterweight to get the azmuith correct and tighten down...
Suggestions? Tubed linestage pre-amp??
If you can stretch a little I would suggest the Herron VTSP-3A. It would appear to meet your criteria and is an exceptional product. I moved through a number of line stages over the past several years and the Herron is by far the best--it ended my...
High efficiency speakers
Not sure about your price point but you should add Daedalus to your list. I heard the new Muse at CAF this weekend and it was exceptional. He has a number of other medium sized floor standers that are worth a look, including the Athena. All are ve...
Capitol Audio Fest Speakers?
I thought there was some really interesting stuff to see at my first CAF. The vintage equipment and really large horn loaded systems were really fun though I can't imagine actually owning something like that I didn't always find the sound compelli...
$10K or less speakers for 20x20 rm with open back
I forgot to mention that I did audition the Aerial 7's (not T) many years ago and it was a very good speaker when provided enough power. The speaker seemed very amp dependent so system matching was important but when set up properly they sounded v...
$10K or less speakers for 20x20 rm with open back
I'll be hanging with Lou in the Daedalus room on Saturday at CAF and agree that these are worth having a listen if you are at the show. He will have the Ulysses and the new Muse--not sure I understand your room configuration based on your OP so ha...
