Something other than Harbeth SHL5
I had a pair of Harbeth C-7ES for many years and felt as you do—great speakers that needed to be goosed to achieve realistic dynamics. After a long search I ended up with Daedalus, which gave me the tonal realism of my C-7s but with better dynamic...
Opinion: Modern country is the worst musical genre of all time
Modern Country = Bad Rock n Roll + Twang
Made in USA
Trained historian and former high school teacher here…not sure why this thread has veered into this territory but I assigned Zinn to my AP US History students to provide a counter narrative to the assigned text (Blum). In today’s parlance Zinn wou...
Do I buy an upscale TT?
Once you get to a certain level of vinyl playback equipment it becomes more about flavor nuances and aesthetic appearance. Maybe better to ask yourself whether you are looking for a different flavor rather than “better performance”.
Looking For 18awg Audiophile Power Cable Options
I won’t weigh in on your rationale for wanting thinner wire for some of your gear but would suggest you reach out to Karl at Empirical Design. I have been using his higher gauge ED-316 PCs for years on my digital players and linestages and love th...
Is R.E.M. underrated by new music nerds?
Another thing I love about REM is how they end their songs—maybe some of the best endings of any rock band I can think of.
Is R.E.M. underrated by new music nerds?
@kb54 copy The Smiths they were working the same field but on the other side of the water—and they also had a great bass player.
Is R.E.M. underrated by new music nerds?
@roxy54 Totally agree on Bill Berry. Hard to give REM superstar status with one weak link in the band but somehow, for me, they are up there given the vibrant energy they brought to rock n' roll at a time when the great bands of the 60s were lost ...
Is R.E.M. underrated by new music nerds?
@roxy54 Gotta take issue with the statement "I think thatt hey were average musicians". IMHO Mike Mills is one of the top 10 bass guitar players of all time. He carried the band, drove the music forward, and sang some decent backup vocals to boot....
Herron VTPH-2 added to system (almost)
Congrats @islandmandan I have had my VTPH-2a for many years now and have never felt the urge to change. Super quiet, reliable, sounds great. I’m also using Keith’s Reference linestage which is equally awesome. Love the guy and his gear. Let us kno...
Graham LS5/5: considered impressions after three months of ownership...
Thanks for sharing your thoughtful insights. I owned a pair of SP-100s for many years and very much enjoyed them so the comparison resonated with me. I think the 5/5 is unique and if I were in the market for a large BBC style monitor they would be...
Please tell me the wait will be work it......my rack
One caveat to my post—racks that are carrying a turntable are a different matter. Best is a wall mount shelf unless you are on the basement level in which case a higher quality rack offering superior isolation for the turntable is worthwhile. On a...
Speaker of My House…!
Easy choice—Daedalus Audio Apollo 11s. Ticks all your boxes.
Herron vs Vinnie Rossi vs a million other options
I don’t know the L2 but @jriggy is spot on regarding the Herron—I would just add excellent timing to his description. Simply a great tube preamp that sounds like music.
Charisma Audio Cartridges
Not sure on the retip price but Bernard is excellent and will do it for what it costs—ask him. The Sig One is by far the best I’ve owned 35 years into this hobby and well worth the coin.
