Anybody with some thoughts on Hafler amps
The 9300 Transnova is a fine amp -- essentially the same as the 9500 /9505 but with less power. I had the 9505 and it was truly a fine amp and is still highly regarded, esp. in pro circles. I think your problem is the 945 preamp, which I also had....
Out of curiosity, where does everyone live?
Midtown Manhattan, New York, NY
Nordost Red Dawn with less brightness?
Since you liked the other Nordost characteristics (as do I), any of the other Nordost offerings above Red Dawn would do nicely. e.g. SPM and higher. I went to SPM from RD and the improvement was in all categories, but particularly mininimal "brigh...
Do I even need or want a preamp?
I can comment on both using a passive preamp and going direct. I used one of the best passives, the Reference Line Preeminence 1, which was superb in my system (and a very significant improvement above the McCormack TLC-1, which I used previously....
MSB Link Dac 3- have modded or go Benchmark ?or?
I had both. I had an MSB 111 with the Channel Island mods and Channel Islands HC2 upgraded power supply, which made the MSB equivalent to the MSB Half Nelson. When I got the Benchmark DAC1, the Benchmark was so far superior that I sold the MSB sho...
audio shop repair costs
I was just quoted $90/hr. at a shop on Long Island, NY. Min. 1hr.
Transport replacement costs - Proceed
Why not try Analogique in NYC (Analogique Systems Laboratories, 17 W 17, 212-989-4240). I have called them in the past when I was considering buying some used transports and they always said they could fix them, though I never had to use them. The...
Anyone spend more on their system than their car?
Live in Manhattan. System $25,000, Car $0.00 (Used to keep a car but what for? Rent one when I need one)
rca and xlr inputs connected simultaneously?
I had a similar question once and consulted with a friend who had a Krell KSA 50 (I think it was). He said the Krell instruction manual said specifically NOT to do it. If you have the instruction manual, take a look. I'm assuming you are talking o...
Blue Heaven 2s or LAT International SS-1000 Mk IIs
A direct comparison would be the only way, as Hassel states above. The Blue Heaven is well-known and highly regarded by many users and reviewers and it would be worth your while to check it out. I have BH and think it is superb for the $$. I don't...
Help, what's the best "Sticky FIngers?"
To my knowledge there is not yet out a remastered S.F. but I know it is under discussion. However, several of the songs on SF are available now in remastered versions - on ABKCO Stones albums in hybrid sacd/cd which came out about 2 years ago ther...
High output DAC?
The XLR outs of the Benchmark DAC1 are high output. I don't recall the level but you can check the manual online: Benchmark Media
Man, am i losing my hearing?
The good news is that its most likely nothing more than earwax build-up, which can be removed by a doctor. It is extremely common and you will be amazed at the difference after the wax is removed. But, you have to go to a doctor to get the problem...
good recordings of Bob Marley
For audiophile quality, the answer is easy: get any of "The Definitive Remasters" series of Bob Marley albums. These were put out in 2001 and after by Tuff Gong, part of the Island Def Jam Music Group. Sound is so superb you will think they were j...
FM Tuner Antenna - what works best?
Suggest you try one of the whip antennas -- the Fanfare FM2G or the equivalent Magnum Dynalab. In my system, in my location, I found the Fanfare to work considerably better than the Godar. One of the reasons is that the Fanfare can be used vertica...
