nordost baldur sc's, ic's
According to Nordost, there is a big difference between the entry level Baldur and the next up level, Heimdall, which is the first level to use the Monofilament (?) technology of the Valhalla. So, they recommend to start with the Heimdall. I have ...
Power Conditioners Recommendations
IMO, Shunyata Hydra is the way to go. I've had Monsters, PS Audio Ultimate Outlets, Quietline filters, and the Hydra is the only one that doen't limit dynamics and made a BIG improvement on everything, from large amps, to digital, to TV. Just amaz...
Shunyata Cable tightness on Hydra 8
Adol,If you decide to add tape, instead of electrical tape try teflon tape (like used for plumbing). That way, if you later decide to remove the tape, there is no gummy reside left on the IEC, the way there would be with electical tape.
has anyone compared Nordost Frey ICs vs Valkyrja
Consider the Frey also. At around $500 used for a 1m pair, they are excellent and half the price of Tyr/
Life without a remote
Contrary to most of these posts, I had no problem in getting rid of the remote. Of course, I did like it, even loved it, but I found I was using it too often to make slight adjustments in volume in a single song rather than listening to the music....
Should I go to a Benchmark DAC1 pre in my system?
Regarding some of the posts above, skepticism is fine but it's a shame when conspiracy theories have to surface, as well as opinions from those who've never actually heard a Benchmark DAC1!!! But they have their opinions a priori because the unit ...
Best Power amps in $7000 range
Fruff, I didn't mean to be difficult in my last posts above. I understand that it can be overwhelming but I think you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself, esp. when you say you want it to be your amp for the next 20 years. Thinking that make...
Best Power amps in $7000 range
One more thing: You'll have to fix the Classe anyway to sell it.
Best Power amps in $7000 range
Something doesn't make sense. You say you really like the Classe and it sounds amazing but it has a certain issue, but because it will cost you some $275 total to fix it you'd rather spend $7,000 to get an amp you don't know anything about. Is tha...
Anyone knows the Classe CA-401?
A friend had the 401's and I had the 201's. Both of us used them on Magnepan 3.6's. We like both Classe's very much - tons of power, detailed, smooth, very well built, fine value for the money. But, good as they were, they were significantly excee...
Is Nordost Frey IC similar to Heimdall?
Frey is above Heimdall in the Nordost line. Buy Frey used on Agon. for $500 or less for 1 meter. All the new Nordost cables have a similar sound. Both Heimdall and Frey were raved about in HiFi+ mag, if I remember right. Frey is a great cable (I h...
Amp for Wilson Sophia
Any Pass Labs amp would be terrific. A friend of mine had Sophia 1 and now has Sophia 2. By far, the best amp was the Pass Labs - he had both the X150.5 and X250.5 (presently utilized) and they were equally good (and terrific). They both surpassed...
Cd player or Dac with 'analog' volume control
My post above refers to the Benchmark DAC-1. (The words saying that in the subject title did not appear for some reason)
Cd player or Dac with 'analog' volume control
All models have an analog volume control. The latest "preamp" model also has an analog input.
Benchmark DAC1 using Toslink input
I have used both with the DAC1 and I can tell you that toslink, at least with the DAC1, sounds excellent. In a test, I used a basic toslink ($35) fed from a $250 Sony cd player to the DAC1, and compared it with a $250 highly regarded digital cable...
