Pass Labs x150.5 question
The Pass X151.5, aside from great sound, has more power than you might think. A British hi fi mag about 2-3 years ago tested it and found that at 8 ohms it clipped at 280 watts, IIRC, and at 4 ohms 370 watts, again IIRC. I had no trouble driving m...
Which line conditioner is best for my situation?
IMO, Shunyata Hydra - no contest. Re: amp, you might consider a Pass Labs (different models, e.g., 150, 150.5, 250, 250.5)- will add a bit of sweetness while retaining great dynamics and transparency.
John Lennon, 29 years ago today....
The morning Lennon was shot, I had gone to the building across the street from the Dakota to have two wisdom teeth removed. I saw some crowds gathering there but hadn't yet heard about the shooting. So, I went into the dental surgeons office and ha...
Component Video cables vs HDMI
Agreed that if your system and TV can utlilize HDMI might as well use HDMI (v. component). However, the quality of the HDMI cable does matter. I too used a Monoprice HDMI and thought it was fine. Until I replaced it with a Wireworld Starlight 5.2 H...
I want to add a sub but have no AV reciever
Adding a sub to the poor speakers in the TV itself is not a very good arrangement, IMO. Poor speaker sound with bass amplified??You might want to try this for relatively inexpensive but excellent sound: I have a Sony 52" LCD/LED TV and added a pai...
McCormack TLC-1 Deluxe Remote
FWIW, when I bought my new TLC-1 way back when, I was told that the cost for the unit with the optional remote was an additional $500. So, $995 + $500 = $1,495. I bought the unit without the remote.
need something to replace built in LCDTV speakers?
Just saw this thread. I use a pair of Audioengine 5 powered monitors - really excellent, audiophile quality $325 the pair with all connections.Just connect with a decent pair of interconnects from the analog outs on the TV and set the TV to extern...
dac for multiple sources
Though your preference is warmth, given your requirements you might consider the Benchmark DAC1, in its various iterations. The DAC1 Pre, for example, I believe has 5 digital inputs, incl. USB and Toslink, and one analag stereo input (RCA). Pristi...
Anyone tried the Benchmark
BTW, one more thing FWIW: Wes Phillips in Stereophile used the Benchmark DAC1 as his DAC/headphone amp in his review a few months back of one of the expensive headphones - could have been the Sennheiser 800.
Anyone tried the Benchmark
I use the Benchmark DAC 1 with headphones and the results are superb, IMO - great transparency and dynamics, crystal clear and not bright or etched. I'm using it with a transport, not a server, and in this set-up a good transport and fine digital ...
Wadia 170i Ipod Dock Vs Onkyo ND S1 Ipod Dock
Sounds good but the only remaining question I would have is what about the warranty? Is it U.S. or Japan? And, if there is a problem does Onkyo U.S. fix it or does it have to go back to Japan?
pass lab owners: can i afford one?
Don't know about straight class A, but on Pass class A/B amps (e.g., X150.5 etc) there is a standby switch. On standby, which is all the time that you're not using the amp, the current draw is "only a few watts", as advised by Pass . Cost is minimal.
Benchmark DAC1 vs CAL Sigma
Since, apparently, no one has done a direct comparison of the Cal Sigma with the Benchmark DAC 1 or the PS Audio, FWIW, maybe this is as close as you can get: I had a dac of approx. the same era, the MSB Half Nelson with upgraded power supply, and...
Pass amps + Power Cords ??
On my Pass X150.5 and my friend's X250.5, here's our experience on powercords and also power conditioners:The Shunyata power cords made a significant improvement on our Pass amps. Starting with the Copperhead, we went to the Taipan Helix Alpha, th...
Okay I Bought the Magnepan 3.6's
Don't get pushed by some of the above posts into thinking you must have 350wpc, 600wpc, 1000wpc, 1,200 wpc. And the post above misstakes my experience that the Pass x150.5 was inadequate - wrong! Of course, if you want to spend the $$, then you ca...
