Impressions of PS Audio GCPH
66 dB? Why do you need so much gain for a MM cart? At 66 dB and 1:30 to 2 you are getting about 60 dB total gain which is x1000. For a nominal 4 mV (at 1K Hz) MM cart output, that is 4 volts output! That's a lot for a line amp input.
are some phono stages more resistant to hum?
Lloydc:When you disconnect you TT ground and the hum is reduced, it implies you have a ground loop. You cannot have multple points of ground in different locations, as these will create hum as ground current flows from one location to another. For ...

Michelzay:Forgot to ask, what inputs are you plugging the GCPH into when you use TT>GCPH>MX135? A high level Aux input, right? The same one you use when you use a MC cartridge with the GCPH?You of course cannot connect the GCPH into the phon...
Impressions of PS Audio GCPH
I suspect the input capacitance of the GCPH plus your phono cables is too high for that cartridge, but that is just a guess. Its not published, but PS told me the input capacitance for the MM/47K input is 100 pF. I have an AT 150 MLX that requires...
Can I Degauss my vinyl ?
I have always tried to keep an open mind assuming there is a reasonable scientific or engineering reason to support a particular tweak. But I don't think I will be degausing my records anytime soon.
How to
Not sure about the MAC, but my some of my Parasound power amps have input attenuators and I always use them maxed out. This will give you the lowest input impedance from the driving preamp to the power amp, and will remove any non-linear effect of...
Impressions of PS Audio GCPH
Rodman:The GCPH description "built around two discrete and fully class A balanced gain stages: a high gain, low noise input stage and a Gain Cell for the output stage, with the passive RIAA curve between the two stages" is what is no longer true. ...

Rodman; Thanks for your comments. After re-soldering the caps the audible noise (60-120 Hz) was reduced considerably, although my measurements were made prior to this. So I doubt if PS Audio would would say there is anything wrong, as the specifica...
Parasound Halo A21 - Power conditioner?
Re Halo DealerI use a Furman PF-Pro R power factor correcting line conditioner (which also has very good surge and transient protection) on my JC1 monoblocks and they have never sounded better. This device has capacitive energy storage which impro...
gold plating components
Gold plating a previously plated surface may be tricky. Getting good adhesion is the issue. I am wondering why the original gold plate is comming off? Surely, you haven't made thousands of connections? I mention this because the original plate was...
Can I Degauss my vinyl ?
Lewm:You mean iron contaminents in the vinyl? Even if there were, one would have to draw a connection between the amount of contamination and the properties of the vinyl. Seems a very big stretch to me.
Think you know analog?
Les creative edge:The wood glue thing is just nuts. First, how do you know it gets deep enough into the grooves? Then, you have to assume it comes out all in one section or you leave more debris in the groves than you started with.I did consider u...
Receiver Question Pre in / Main out
Are you sure its not MAIN IN and Preamp OUT?Typically, that jumper links the pre-amp (output) section of the receiver to the power amp (input) section. So, if you want to drive a separate power amp, you would connect an outboard power amp to the pr...
I think my speakers are killing my amps.
If these speakers are primarily resistive, put a DVM across them and measure the impedance. If they are mis-wired and you get something very low (like 3 ohms or lower), maybe your amp just cannot drive that low of an impedance at the higher SPLs.T...
What amp for B&W 803 MATRIX S2 fronts for HT only?
Do you mean bi-amp or bi-wire? To bi-amp them you need an active crossover and two separate power amps. To bi-wire, you simply run two pairs of speaker wires, one pair to the high frequency drivers and one pair to the low frequency drivers. Both p...
