Any smooth jazz fans out there?
Strateahed, a cogent analysis of the scene and of Kenny G as a transitional figure. In an interview he once admitted that he mostly practices in front of a bathroom mirror-- certainly the best place for Mr. G to stroke his instrument.
New reissue of Exile on Main Street
Each reissue is a new opportunity to revisit Atco COC 2-2900 vinyl. A tad lite on bass, but generally fantastic, detailed, spatial recording with brass balls, Stones on top. If it sounds murky on your system it's your problem.
Vaughn Cabernet - Anybody heard this one?
It sounded impressive at RMAF last year with Wavelength preamp & Wavelength 300B SET. An SET-friendly dynamic speaker with excellent Accuton drivers. I believe Jim is just now ramping into volume production.

Smooth jazz is too slippery to vilify outright. Pat Metheny, Oregon, Jan Garbarek, even the great Jim Hall & Bill Evans play both sides of the fence.

Much of it is bubblegum. However I keep returning to early Larry Carlton, particularly "Sleepwalk."
Worst Rock Band Ever !!!!
Kiss is too self-consciously parodistic for classification as the worst. However, they do qualify to the extent that fans take them seriously. The Rutles and Spinal Tap were on similar ground. What can one say about an album like "Break Like the W...

How important is ext. adj. for cartridge loading
As a middle ground option, consider switching on PCB via in-line micro-toggle switches as per BAT VKP10. This is more convenient than jumpers and keeps the signal path short, albeit degraded by switch contacts.
How important is ext. adj. for cartridge loading
Peter,At that price point I would prefer the money invested in higher quality piece parts. However front panel or even remote control adjustable loading is becoming de rigueur at higher price point(e.g. Manley and ARC Ref phono.)For MM/MI consider...
Rogue vs ARC
No_Money, I have not yet heard ARC 450. Of the several Class D amps that I have heard the Veloce battery/tube/hybrid sounds best.It may be that some tube amps can be satisfying even with middling piece parts, because tube circuits are generally si...
Rogue vs ARC
Reynolds853, Could it be that ARC's comment was more about the high cost of shipping & repairs for this heavy early SS model, relative to moving up to something newer? AFAIK, ARC still likes to promote its support for every product they ever m...
The pivoted arm experiment is over
I would only add that(in theory at least) the TT should not be so lightly sprung that the moving horizontal mass of the LT affects level of carriage.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Lewm, I did not review Acutex but only added an anecdote from a prospector who found one.Perhaps JB0194(who has a good collection of Pickering/Stanton) will comment further, but yes I am enjoying Pickering XSV3000 retipped with NOS D3000SP stereoh...
Review: ACUTEX LPM 315 III STR Cartridge
Hi Raul, A quick search uncovered this post to another forum. Hunting these vintage cartridges sometimes feels like an old man on the beach with a metal detector looking for dubloons. Thanks! "The day was silver lined, after all, though. Number on...
