Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Lew, I preferred Azden around 1.2gm, level to slightly negative VTA, and 70-80K loading.
Glanz moving magnet cartridges
I'll throw my hat in the ring with Dgob, Raul, and Lew. In my system both top Azden and top Astatic are on the clinical side of the MM/MI continuum and closest to MC in general character. So far Empire 999 has the most warmth & presence, and a...

Lew, I got mine from Norm as referenced toward the bottom of this URL.http://www.antivibrationmagic.ca/index.php?page=about

BTW perhaps owing to the spring steel clip mount, the Empire body is quite microphonic and reactive to taps to the headshell. After break-in is finished this one will get the AVM paint treatment.

Lew, the twists & turns of analog set-up never cease to vex & amaze. After a year of feeling pretty smart about shortening the length of my linear air arm to 2", I only recently grasped that the extreme VTA setting optimal for cartridges l...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Dear Jim,From your post it looks like I need to find a 1000Z/EX body to fit what is evidently my spare 236 round-sheathed stylus with "wisker-thin" cantilever. One finds 1000 bodies with the square sheath of my 999X/EX body like the following body...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Question to holders of Empire 1000: is the body receptacle for the cantilever barrel square or round? My 999 body takes a square cantilever, I have seen a photo of a 1000 body with a square receptacle, yet the NOS replacement stylus that I purchas...

Sorry, that's XUV-2400/2400Q.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
This was the most interesting post I found on my journey to XSV-3000. http://forums.audioreview.com/showthread.php?t=19899This is authored by the ex-Stanton exec, who also mentions that the XUV-2500 with 2500Q stylus were inferior first-generation...

Lew, Bluz Broz has NOS S1000ZE/X-ERD stylus. I was lucky to score one for far less on eBay, which I will soon fit to a 999 body.As there is much on other forums about Stanton/Pickering, I thought it would be interesting to compare one to some of t...
Soundsmith's turnaround time?
Tpreaves, This is certainly true. However IMO it is most important to know that Soundsmith is a clean and straight and reasonably priced service and that the customer is eventually satisfied. One occasionally encounters shady operators in audio, a...
Soundsmith's turnaround time?
Al, mine was finished at 7 mos. after many fruitless queries. The cartridge was finished the day after I requested return of the cartridge finished or unfinished. The work was good, but obviously it is possible to get buried in the backlog. Readin...

Hi Raul, please repost the link to the replacement Azden stylus. The link that you posted points to your c: drive. After around 75 hours of break-in Azden really got religion. Any perception of treble lift and diffuse LF has resolved into a neutral...
Review: RAM Modified Marantz SA-7S1 CD Player
I incorporated many of Kyle's ideas and piece parts into my modified SCD-1. This DIY project unfolded gradually over several years, in the course of which I got to know Kyle fairly well. As you indicate, he is a thoughtful & honest pro who fre...
The pivoted arm experiment is over
Frogman, I agree. It is always surprising how obvious a single variable change can be-- particularly at the source.Ddriveman, you may be onto something: Vic of Trans-Fi wrote me that the Decca Reference is his favorite cartridge on Terminator line...
