Merlin speakers
I’m revisiting this thread to suggest a relatively easy modification that should improve any iteration of Merlin VSM. I acquired VSM-MXs with a balanced BBAM bass equalizer in the mid-2000’s.  Over the years, I substituted better piece parts in t...
Streaming Music and being able to keep them as your personel files
Recording from Tidal or Qobuz streams in real time in the digital domain works. To complete the experience you need software like Vinyl Studio to sequence the tracks and find the metadata.
What does Roon do?
The advantages of Roon scale with the size of your stored music.  With 10,000+ ripped CDs, SACDs, hi-res downloads, and vinyl-to-DSD conversions, I wouldn't contemplate any other approach.  If you're only streaming it probably doesn't make sense.
There's a lot more bass in a 6.5" driver than most of you think
I don't usually draw conclusions before 100 hrs. of break-in, but at 3 hrs. there is not a single area in which the Purifi 6.5" mid/woofer doesn't surpass the stock doped Scanspeak 8545 in a Merlin VSM.

I will be comparing it to Scanspeak 8545 in Merlin VSM.
Is nylon sheathing for DIY cables just window dressing?
Hello Eric.  Yes, I shield the DIY speaker cables.  At the amp end I solder a pigtail to the cable's braided shield and connect the wire to earth ground.  At the speaker end of the cable, pigtails fan out from the cable shield to the metal baskets...
is it possible to make digital audio sound like vintage vinyl
Actually, a good hi-res digital recording of an LP does capture much of vinyl's LF juice and tonality.
Is nylon sheathing for DIY cables just window dressing?
Most of my DIY cables use tinned copper braid wrap for shielding and damping.  The tinned coatings rub off on your hands unless covered by Tekflex plastic braid.  Tekflex also looks nice and is relatively cheap from MacMaster Carr on-line.  Not mu...
is it possible to make digital audio sound like vintage vinyl
Personally I have no interest in flavoring digital files to simulate the "vinyl sound." It is more interesting that an ADC can accurately transfer the "sound" of an LP to a hires digital format. If successful, this demonstrates that the vinyl sour...
is it possible to make digital audio sound like vintage vinyl
Mike’s experiments are conducted at the state of the art of both formats. At less than SOTA, YMMV. BTW, Mike: what digital recorder did you use?
is it possible to make digital audio sound like vintage vinyl
Results are on a sliding scale, depending on the quality of the vinyl front end, phono stage, digital recorder, server, streamer, and DAC. IME recording vinyl to DSD128 can be quite faithful to the vinyl source, and more important, surpass the exp...
New Denafrips recklocker/converters: IRIS and GAIA
I see these products accept clock inputs around 45mhz. Any idea why they chose these rates? The most commonly used rate in audio studio master clocks is 10mhz, as well as multiples of 44.1 to 192khz. Also, can the multiple outputs on these product...

Pure Audio Project open baffle speakers
I've heard them in several settings.  If interested in open baffle, lean toward Spatial.
Older And Wiser or just Tighter and Deafer?
For me the big moves are in the past. For the past ten years (I’m now 65), I’ve shifted mostly to DIY audio in order to side-step upgraditus-- by way of modifications that improve and extend the life of already excellent commercial components that...
