Everything Matters With Digital
We can probably all agree that a Raspberry Pi is the best $39 DAC that one can buy.
Merlin Battery Bam
If you have a DIY capability, upgrade the BBAM to an external +/- 12vdc linear power supply and eliminate those noisy button cell batteries.
DENAFRIPS DAC ---- Owner Impressions, Feedback, General Discussion, Questions and more....
As intriguing as this is, the 45mhz clock links between his products are a closed architecture as far as I can see. I would love to try it, but have been using a 10mhz clock link between Esoteric and SOtM products and see no way to interoperate wi...
Which USB Re Clocker
With an Esoteric K-01X-- a very good DAC and USB interface-- I can clearly hear improvements with external USB regeneration, ethernet switches, master clock links, power supplies, and digital cables.
Which USB Re Clocker
@grannyring That’s an interesting report on the 3R Mastertime Blackstar. I’ve been using a SOTM EN-to-USB renderer, SOTM USB conditioner, and SOTM-modified D-Link hub, all powered by Hynes SR-7 and synchronized to a 10mhz rubidium clock (and a JCA...
Duelund CAST-PIO-Ag
I have .01s bypassing ClarityCap CMR in series and shunt positions in a second order crossover. They add a bit of richness and air in a satisfying way. Not obscenely expensive in very small values and probably worth trying.
A world class volume control for pennies on the dollar
@Kr4 Not a bad idea, as achieving good CMRR would be difficult with a balanced pot due to variations in tracking across four sections.Assuming that the buffers are well executed, I would swap out the ALPs pot for a Goldpoint stepped attenuator or ...
A world class volume control for pennies on the dollar
There was speculation on the technoid Audio Science forum that the Alps pot might have been implemented to control the output level of the op amps-- thus removing the pot from the signal path. But nothing definite.
Merlin speakers
@confoosed The post was for those who know and understand Merlin speakers. Also, for anyone interested in buzz about an innovative driver from a new company.
Merlin speakers
I’m revisiting this thread to suggest a relatively easy modification that should improve any iteration of Merlin VSM. I acquired VSM-MXs with a balanced BBAM bass equalizer in the mid-2000’s.  Over the years, I substituted better piece parts in t...
Streaming Music and being able to keep them as your personel files
Recording from Tidal or Qobuz streams in real time in the digital domain works. To complete the experience you need software like Vinyl Studio to sequence the tracks and find the metadata.
What does Roon do?
The advantages of Roon scale with the size of your stored music.  With 10,000+ ripped CDs, SACDs, hi-res downloads, and vinyl-to-DSD conversions, I wouldn't contemplate any other approach.  If you're only streaming it probably doesn't make sense.
There's a lot more bass in a 6.5" driver than most of you think
I don't usually draw conclusions before 100 hrs. of break-in, but at 3 hrs. there is not a single area in which the Purifi 6.5" mid/woofer doesn't surpass the stock doped Scanspeak 8545 in a Merlin VSM.
There's a lot more bass in a 6.5" driver than most of you think
I will be comparing it to Scanspeak 8545 in Merlin VSM.
Is nylon sheathing for DIY cables just window dressing?
Hello Eric.  Yes, I shield the DIY speaker cables.  At the amp end I solder a pigtail to the cable's braided shield and connect the wire to earth ground.  At the speaker end of the cable, pigtails fan out from the cable shield to the metal baskets...
