Roon 1.8
First look today.  I like that file formats and bit/sampling rates are now displayed at the top level view.  It's faster to locate the preferred hi-res version of a title.
Best sounding resistors
If you can justify the price and resistances are <100K, the Vishay/Texas Components TX2575/Charcroft CAR Z-foil equivalents are the most transparent, surpassing MK-132. If cost is a factor, consider Welwyn-- very sweet and clean. I recently use...
Stereo systems are like Harleys
As someone well versed in them once said to me, Harley measures tolerances with a yardstick.  Maybe similar to some hi-end audio manufacturers.
Ohm Walsh F Hope of Resurrection
Doug, as a check point to your repairs you might speak with Harry Weisfeld.  He has a pair of restored stacked Ohm F at the VPI house.  I haven't heard them, but perhaps he has some ideas to help bring out the best in the F.
Ohm Walsh F Hope of Resurrection
+1 @trudat IOW it’s the HHR Exotic that proves the merit of Walsh’s conception-- or maybe a German Physiks. A $400 restoration of a Ohm F is a straw man.
The problem with Magicos
Trepanning, also known as trepanation, trephination, trephining or making a burr hole (the verb trepan derives from Old French from Medieval Latin trepanum from Greek trypanon, literally "borer, auger")[1][2] is a surgical intervention in which a...
Uptone EtherRegen
I've been using a Regen since August.  It's in series between a SOtM-modified hub and a SOtM trifecta into an Esoteric K-01X, all synchronized to a 10mhz rubidium clock.  In my application the Regen improves things, extending LF authority and addi...
DAC Choices - $5,000 to $7,000
@grannyring So interesting, after so many recent innovations in formats and multiples of sampling rates, to be drawn back to an non-oversampling R2R DAC. I’m looking at this from the perspective of an Esoteric K-01X, which has a fine DAC section a...
DAC Choices - $5,000 to $7,000
The Mojo Mystique Evo Pro sure looks interesting, but with 500+ burned SACDs and DSD128 vinyl rips, I just can’t face the notion of being limited to PCM. I suppose Roon could be used to downsample DSD to 24/196, but that seems like a step backward...
Ethernet cables
I tried various CAT5-7 generics before settling on Supra CAT8.  The big moves are with an Ethernet switch between your router and the endpoint, such as SOtM or an Uptone EtherRegen.  Consider an EtherRegen between your router and the Melco.  Ether...
Rythmik fv25hp vs JL Audio fathom 113v2
Why not add a second ZU Undertone?
Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
I can’t recall if I dismantled and lubed the bearing. I replaced all original electrolytic capacitors and recalibrated the two speed pots. Vinyl Engine has a Luxman service note on this simple procedure, which requires only a voltmeter.Your photos...
Ohm Walsh F Hope of Resurrection
Hello Doug.  Remember when we sat listening to the TL-1 in Dale Harder's room at Axpona?  IMHO that was best in show.  After that I wouldn't bother with Ohm F, but to each his own and a good project is always interesting. Talk to Cascade Audio Eng...
Tango Step Up Transformers vs Bob's Sky Blue Cinemag
You might also look at Quadratic by Cinemag.  Quadratic is a division of Cinemag with exclusive access to a new TOTL Cinemag transformer.  I haven't heard it, but I have respect for the designer, an ex-Pass Labs engineer.http://www.quadraticaudio....
Vinyl Rip from Modwright PH 9.0 phono stage
I've made excellent vinyl recordings at 24/192 and DSD128 on a Tascam DA-3000.  Its gain level is adjustable.  It records to an SD card, which can be transferred to a PC through a USB-attached card reader.  Tascam provides downloadable freeware to...
