Different Anitskate for Rock vs. Classical
Too much VTF & AS can lead to bent cantilevers over time or increase the frequency of the need to retip. Also, a general rule of thumb some people use is set AS to 1/3 of VTF and use that as the starting point. Just don't buy any 2nd hand cart...
Different Anitskate for Rock vs. Classical
Porziob,Trust me it works wonderfully. Think about it as well. I am visually checking on a blank record that the arm is not moving too fast towards the center to need antiskate. How is it a hair brained scheme. Honestly, it is the simplest method....
Different Anitskate for Rock vs. Classical
I do set it & forget it. I use a system where as I lower the arm into the lead out grooves of the record (usually a record w. a large lead out groove) I set antiskate for the arm to slowly continue towards the center. It is very precise. Too m...
Different Anitskate for Rock vs. Classical
Hey,I am not talking about the classic great albums. I am talking about the 1 hit wonders. Usually 1st song. Anyhow, you get my point. Isn't antiskate a matter of optimizing for where you listen the most?
Anyone tried Shunyata's Antares interconnect yet ?
Ozzy,The bass being lean, means that it sounds lighter, with less presense than the Transparent. A string bass sounds smaller and further back in the room. To be honest, bass is the foundation of music and the Shunyata cables just miss at this poi...
APL NWO2.5 ?
I keep seeing each of Alex's newer units as being described here in Audiogon as "blowing away" the previous generation. There is a lack of description of how it is better. For some reason any newer mod to any unit is described as elevating perform...
Any opinions on a new arm for NAS Hyperspace?
Tom,The Nottingham Hyperspace has a slightly warm sound for a turntable. There are different ways to get the most from this table. Your direction w. Van Den Hull cartridges or Lyra is correct. Find the arm that matches these cartridges the best is...
Compliance & Efffective Mass Question
Doug,I moved my ZYX Universe from my Schroder SQ to my Ikeda tonearm. Basically adding about 15 gms effective mass to the arm. It now has a resonant frequency of 10 Hz lateral & vertical as expected. What is even more amazing is the increase i...
Best Amp for my Pipedreams and ML 32
The treble of the Krell is fixed w. the Elrod power cord. I stongly suggest you try it. You will save a lot of money. Just get the power cord & try the Krell on top. It transforms the Krell FPB 600. Even helps the articulation of the bass. It ...
Best Amp for my Pipedreams and ML 32
Save a ton of money & get a Krell FPB 600 w. an Elrod Power cord.
Anyone tried Shunyata's Antares interconnect yet ?
I just compared the Shunyata Antares, to Transparent Reference w. XL tech as interconnects between a VTL 7.5 preamp & MB 750 amp. I used different CDs/SACDs for the comparison & did it by switching cables back & forth repeatedly. I am ...
Bad experience with ZYX AIRY 3
I am not sure the the compliance of the Bloom but my guess is you need a cartridge w. medium compliance or higher. Unless you can add weight at the headshell. Otherwise the bass will suffer.
Anyone tried Shunyata's Antares interconnect yet ?
I have the Antares interconnects in a system w. Transparent speaker cables. I will be comparing them to my old Transparent Reference (XL tech) interconnects shortly. I am waiting for them to finish breaking in. So far they seem incredibly neutral....
Compliance & Efffective Mass Question
I am checking over time if the compliance changes. I also find some cartridges compliance to not be to specification. I would suggest the airtech might be too light an arm for a cartridge with a compliance of 15 or less, especially the ZYX. It see...
Compliance & Efffective Mass Question
My ZYX has a measured compliance of 5. My tonearm has an effective mass of 18gms. and the resonant vertical & horizontal frequencys are 14 Hz each. This indicate a 5 rating. I need to increase the mass of my tonearm by over 10 gms.
