Fly in the SACD Ointment?
Makes sense to me Sol: I have been listening to some recordings tonight on CD "The Tiny Powell Gospel Collection" that were originaly recorded in 1949 and 1950 and had to take it to the mini system to make it listenable.
If you knew then, what you know now...
My advice would be to wait/save and buy what you really want (really want but can honestly justify the purchase/expense of) the first time around. To buy a component with the thought that it will be upgraded (it will do for now) will mean that you...
Amp Hum
Also: Be very careful if you open up the amp. Caps etc. can hold current for long periods of time. I just recieved a suggestion from a gentleman at AA in regard to me popping open one of my amps for a look, which was: "Only use one hand at a time,...
Tubes - What do the letters mean
Tbone: I usually go to the Audio Asylum tube forum (which has a full search feature) to research tubes that I am not familiar with. The combined body of knowledge of the members (or inmates as they refer to themselves) is quite impressive. I have ...
Any good and cheap CD racks?
Jim: "Out of the Closet" on Sawtelle just North of Santa Monica Blvd. had a slew of new jewel cases for 25 cents each, last week. I purchased a bunch at "Fries" (sp) when I was out in the valley picking up a pair of Target stands and paid approx. ...
How much does your system retail for?
Doug: We are called "pot lickers" where I hail from. My current main system retails for $6500. I paid a little over $3000 for it. I also have another $2000 (actual outlay) in items that are either being produced at this time, will be ordered withi...
California Brownouts and equipment
Snook: We have had an offer to relocate to Italy, but I fear that I would go hoarse yelling "where's the beef".
Audio s impact on enviroment
I now shut down both of our systems, when they are not in use, as well as the computer (at night). We have also dug out the old "Mickey Mouse" and "Bart Simpson" night lights to be used in the place of leaving the kitchen lights on while we sleep....
Digital cable recommendations?
Mapleshade Double Helix digital cable ($125.00 new and a 30 day return policy).
Cryogenic Tempering
Thanks Caesar: I had run across this site a while back, but could not remember the name of it. Has anyone tried the dry ice method, at home, on tubes with any success?
Cable "burning": Real or VooDoo ???
I have nothing new to add but will mention the old. I burn IC's in by runing the cable music station through our VCR to the television (with the new IC's in the link). This way I do not have to listen to them and they can run in most of the day(s)...
PS Audio Ultimate Outlet
Eddie: Uh huh, was so. Search under "ultimate outlet" at the first forum page and you will find two previous though recent threads on the subject. The units that just started shipping are most likely the "immediately upgraded" versions. There is a...
California Brownouts and equipment
Sean & everybody: I just went to Global Mart and the price is still $124.95 plus $9.25 for UPS ground. I ordered another one to get it over with. I am going to try running two in tandem (the second one running off of the "digital" outlet of th...
California Brownouts and equipment
Sean: Bummer, that was where I picked mine up (but it's only $75.00 and not the end of the world). I think that Craig at Vibrapods offers a slight discount and will check him out. Jdwek: The HTS-2000 cleans up the power, but does not regenerate or...
Blu-Tack where to Buy?
Doug: I never picked up the real deal to compare (though I am comparing a piece of plastic laboratory tubing), coiled flat, to Vibrapods (under my tube amp) as we speak. One thing that you DO NOT want to try under speakers is florist's clay.
