"Trainfare Home"
One Month Music Discoveries
Today's find: Last Forever "Trainfair Home". Not a clue but it is a folksy, instrumental, chick singing group of musicians that do an exceedingly haunting version of "Duke of Earl" as the last song on the CD. It is worth keeping for this song alone.
To tone control or not to tone control
I thought that it was mentioned above but cannot find it now (perhaps I am thinking of another thread) but Musical Fidelity used to make a little add on called the X-Tone that you should be able to use as Bruce mentions using the Adcom in his abov...
loss of bass after filling stands
I tried marble over carpet with spiked (sand filled but still very light) speaker stands, resting on the marble and it sounded very thin, though clean, to the point that I kept turning up the volume way to high for my amp. I removed the marble fro...
Cable "burning": Real or VooDoo ???
Bruce: Nice post. I will soon be in a position where the final addition or tweak to my system will be the speaker cables. I am satisfied with my (very) reasonably priced IC's and will just have to find a pair of speaker cables that sinc with the r...
Speaker suggestion for 600.
Your room should accomodate quite a range of speakers. Although they are at the top of your budget, I think that you would really enjoy the MMG's. What they lack in dynamic ability they more than make up for in other areas, especially considering ...
Power cords - a BASIC question
Steven: If this were so, then why do various line cords, that do not have any of these features, sound different from one another? I think that you must have left something out. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Speaker suggestion for 600.
Rayasa: How large is your listening room and what type of music do you generally listen to? The answers to these questions will help others and myself make more informed and perhaps even better recommendations,
Excess Power Cord Length
Jim: I wonder if shortening/lengthening them would change the sound (as in less and more filtering)? I kind of like to stick with standard length power cords (5-6ft), so that they will be usefull down the line in different setups. I once purchased...
Sensitivity Issues
Eleonida: Good questions, but no hard fast answers. I have tried out some speaker/amp combos that looked good on paper as far as the manufacturers specs for the equipment went, but that were a total bust. I am running 90db, 4ohm speakers with a 7w...
Moon vs Electrocompaniet
Sam: What benefits does the BC 1.1 offer over the 1.0 and does Bel Canto still offer the upgrade? This might be another option for 84Audio. I, as you know use the BC Dac 1, but have not looked into the upgrade as of yet.
Musicality" in a system? What IS that ?
I agree with Jayboard whole heartedly in that I use the words "musical" and "musicality" when I am too lazy to come up with better descriptive terms. I still intend on using them though, in a pinch, and can only add that sometimes "musical" to me ...
Why pay "more" for USED??
Their was a seller with (zero) and sunglass's on Ebay, just a few weeks ago that was listing the $850.00 (retail) Gallo two speaker, passive sub and two speaker stands setup for $1500.00. This week it's back again, on sale for less, (what an A-hole).
Room too small - any suggestions
Pops: Pick up the pair of Rogers Ls3/5a's at this site (under $800.00) and have some fun until you get your main listening room back. A shoebox speaker for a shoebox room.

Today's finds: Juanjo Dominguez (guitarist) "From Manhattan to Buenos Aires, Vol 1". Not a clue but it's damm good. The second one is "Table Songs, Georgian Folk Songs", Rustavi Choir. It's on so so Sony Clasical label. I live in a small Russian a...
