Speaker Cables? why all the hype for expensive speaker wire?
The best test is your ears, if you can. If someone can’t hear a difference, no need to believe it, or wonder, save yourself the $. As MC hinted above, its no members job here to convince otherwise. Go discover. I compared four different low, mid-g...
Speaker Cables? why all the hype for expensive speaker wire?
If someone only tries low-grade low-cost cables and never compares them hands on to really good cables (in a high end system with great upstream components) you likely will never know what you are missing. Kinda like buying a really nice sports to...
Speaker Cables? why all the hype for expensive speaker wire?
@georgehoffmann60 +1 for Peter at the CableCompanyAgree. A great option for new folks who are curious and wanting to demo first. Its not free.  However, If I had to do it all over again, I'd start with 2-3 pairs of loaner cables from CableCo and s...
Speaker Cables? why all the hype for expensive speaker wire?
@ozzy "I have found that as I improve my components the difference in the cables connecting them together matters."...Absolutely.
Speaker Cables? why all the hype for expensive speaker wire?
What are you comparing it to? You may have just proved a point about the differences that can be heard - moving to,quote "higher purity copper" and "hearing things on my records I never heard before", unquote. Like you did, sometimes we just have ...
El34 = KT88 = KT120
@mozartfan Look all I am saying is the Dybaco ST70.EL34 , Allen Organ Monos KT120s, sounded darn close to the Defy KT88. Thats all I am saying, This could very well be the case with your source, your cables, your speakers, in your listening space....
How much do caps matter-Cary SLI-80
@roxy54 "This thread is 7 years old dekooney."The Cary SLI-80 amplifier is timeless, it won’t die, and nothing has changed except the spelling of my handle-name, ...not, lol i caught it late only looking at the last post ;)
How much do caps matter-Cary SLI-80
Yes, If you are going to ship or hire a tech, might as well replace all four IMO. I had those Jensen oils in my former SLI-80, they do produce a softer and more veiled over sound in that amp. If you like it, can always stick with it. While I have ...
BEWARE OF FRAUD with this member
re: "USPS Insured shipment, with delivery confirmation."For your USPS shipment, did you require signature, or confirmation only?
Little Constellation ever sold used
Maybe its not so easy-come easy-go when you pay that much $$$ for it.  And if it sounds really good, they might be 20 year keepers.
Lii Audio drivers and speaker
A friend was oogling about the LA drivers when they first came out, and he bought a pair for his flea-watt amps along with a group of his buddies running the same amps. Now trying baffle options and other ideas as I gather. Waiting to hear back on...
warmest speaker cables you've heard?
@jasonbourne52 Wire is not a tone control - contrary to what the "golden ears" crowd claims!Disagree 100%. With moderate hearing, some (not all) interconnect and speaker cabling absolutely CAN function as a passive tone control, grain & edge c...
warmest speaker cables you've heard?
@docroastyMy Cardas Cross bi-wire set can be a little warm'ish and lush with less grain (on poor recordings) compared to some other AQ Type 4,6 Apature Silver over copper, many others I've owned and tried.  I'm looking to possibly compare them to ...
B&K ST-140 amplifier buying decision
Plan to buy a 2nd one for spare parts if you fall in love with the amp. Boards are long gone. Owned many B&K amps and preamps 20+Yrs, and sold the last three and two for scrap parts.
