Solid state to tube
@ecpninja if you are more use to the type of drive your Meitner MTR-101 mono amps have now, and even though your speakers spec is 8ohm / 92db sensitivity, the room size and desired volume listening levels is a real factor to consider.   Coming fr...
Solid state to tube
@charles1dad "Probably due to the very simple circuit and high built quality"   With less in the signal path, sometimes simple sounds better too 👍
Solid state to tube
@ecpninja I've read some folks claim to have used your 8ohm speakers with some lower powered tube amps, however as mentioned by @dekay the room size and what volume levels / dynamic preferences you like to listen for can help narrow it down some. ...
Looking for some listener experience with the Cary SLP-30. Just bought one…
+1 to what @pwerahera mentioned about inverted polarity on many of the Cary preamps.  Same with my SLP-98 pre, as noted - just reverse the wires on the speaker side. It's not an issue per se', just how the preamp was designed, intentionally.

Congrats on the find. Be sure to let it settle in with your system for a while and just listen to it before pushing to make upgrades too quickly. While it might have older caps and tubes, it can be very enjoyable to get acquainted with it as-is to...
From an MHDT to an Audio Mirror, quick impressions
@wlutke Nice - I’m an old fan of digi-coax myself, I bet it sounds even nicer once everything settles in like @tvad mentioned. Enjoy!
From an MHDT to an Audio Mirror, quick impressions
@wlutke which connection type are you using? (AES, SPDIF/Coax, USB, Toslink) I’m experimenting with another non-tube dac that formerly utilized a similar AD chipset and now on to something different. It’s good to read you are having favorable res...
From an MHDT to an Audio Mirror, quick impressions
When I upgraded my MHDT Orchid with top-shelf Mundorf coupling caps and Tesla 6CC42 or GE 5-star Triple Mica tubes - the speed, sound stage depth, tone/texture brought it to a new level. In my rig the Tesla is very nice. Comparing to other dacs, ...
Tube Amp for Devore O/96
Has anyone here heard the O/96 with good KT88 pentode mono amps?
Dust Settled Consensus- is the Benchmark AHB2 an Audiophile Amplifier?
@yyzsantabarbara I have the Benchmark DAC3B but switched it out for the warmer Musetec 005 DAC.   I did a similar swap-out, and agree with @peter_s ’s comments above in similar fashion, applied to the dac as well. Measured extremely well yet...
Cost break down of hifi system
@shtr74sims I do feel like the Cardas cyngus is a good place to start for cables to, I can get them at a decent discount. It would be around 2600 on cyngus cables which is not to bad...   If it helps to share, I was fortunate to do some early ...
Cost break down of hifi system
As others mentioned, It its worth mocking up the system and getting it up/running even if you have to try some loaner library cables from TheCableCo. If you plan to keep the XP12 longer term, while the Cardas Cygnus is not end-game for some Pass a...
Upgraded McCormack DNA-1 or Dennis Had Inspire SEP?
@jsbw "after a bit of tube rolling"...   Nah, really? 🤣 That was my only frustration with my prior Inspire and a pile of sets of different tubes leftover. i.e. With my tube dac, along came a list of tubes and rankings with helpful listening re...
KT-150 Tubes- Push Farther or Replace?
Agree with @invalid, some circuits are running up to 600V plate voltage at about 80 - 85 mA current per tube. I ran my KT150s in the 50ma range per tube and they still sound great. Some of the diy folks were talking about this a while back, gettin...
KT-150 Tubes- Push Farther or Replace?
Sounds like you've got it figured out.  A while back I watched a tour of the factory and how they batch those groupings of matched kt150 tubes for your amp.  I recall thinking I'd likely not get too hung up on keeping matched quads or octets if I ...
