Two terms I don't understand - please explain 04-29-08: Rnm4 said:"...Actually, my Naim Nait 3 was pratty with all sources, in a way previous amps were not, and in which my NAP140/NAC32.5 is, but my Scott 222c and Sherwood AM-7040 are not -- though I don't think that's a flaw in these latter,...

Two terms I don't understand - please explain Maybe you could name an vintage component that doesn't "time very well".Lot's of times there is intermodulation distortion between the two-speakers (don't even talk about surround) and between the speakers and the room. IM distortion can make a sy...

My Lenco does, though. Also, poor speakers or badly matched speakers and amp can be sluggish."We cert...

IMO it is more about subtle micro dynamic shading- even within a single note/chord as it is played. Slam is only the leading edge of the note, when you feel the kick drum hit your chest c...
Two terms I don't understand - please explain Great explainations of the generally accepted interpretations of these terms; however, I'd like to point out that the Pace, Rhythm and Timing part of PRaT are misnomers. All but the most seriously flawed systems get these elements of sound reprodu...
Review: Jeff Rowland Continuum 500 Amplifier Thanks Ric. I've heard that the Continuum 500 has PFC but not the 250. The Capri pre-amp doesn't have PFC, but it's compatable. Guido reports much improvement to the Capri he's evaluating. I think it's a sound investment to add a PC-1 in front of ...
Dali Helicon 400 or Acoustic Zen Adagio? The DALIs are very amp sensitive. The bass can sound very woolly without a good bit of power and damping to handle the woofers. I heard them with 4 amps and each sounded very different.Dave
Ultra high resolution Nicely said, Mrtennis. That's what I thought you might mean.I don't have panel speakers, BUT I bet you a bottle of fine wine that you'd enjoy my system, with the right recordings and at the right distance. ;-)Dave
Ultra high resolution I might have to help her hold it... ;-)
Ultra high resolution 04-28-08: Mrtennis said:"hi dave:as i understand, music is pitch, timbre and dynamics.breath is not music.yes, my tastes have been documented and i admit to them."You say that with such certainty. As with religion, when I hear someone speak with s...
Ultra high resolution Yeah Rodman, I looked around at some of Mrtennis' other posts and that seems to be a constant theme of his. As you say, he has his right to his opinion. He's so vociferous about it I wonder if he's got "short man syndrome." ;-) However, I have emp...
Ultra high resolution 04-28-08: Dazzdax said:"Is any of you familiar with a poweramp that has ultra high resolution (without sounding overly aggressive)? If you do, could you specify which amp you have in mind? In my opinion 95% of all amps (tubes or solid state) don't...
Dali 400s, Best Speaker Cable ? I've heard the DALIs work well with the Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Oval 8 cable in single-wire configuration. Bi-wire should be even better.Dave
Ultra high resolution That makes sense to me. I've never heard a non-musician call it "sizzle".Speaking of hi rez, I pulled out my DVD-Audio version of Dave Grusin's "Two For The Road -- The Music of Henry Mancini". Compared to the Grusin CDs, the DVD-A really is "orga... |
