Integrated amp with phono section for Totem Arro
Sounds like a formula for a great weekend. Have fun.Dave
Okay......best single box reference CD player
I think that the old DACs have a place, particularly for a company like Naim that's not staking their whole reputation on the performance of their CDP. They want to be considered top echelon in everything that they do, but not necessarily the very...

Rebbi, only consider the NAD when you're certain that you need more power. Moving from PS Audio to NAD at the same power levels is generally NOT considered an upgrade. Going from 70 to 150 watts is significant, but not a big jump. If it becomes ap...
Jeff Rowland Capri preamp
Yes, entirely different, or maybe more accurately, very different.Dave

Whoa, no way Ayre is "most honored". Let's call it "worthy competitor" and leave it there.Dave
Stuck on cabinet color
Maple will look fantastic in most rooms. Only if you have dark carpets, walls and other funiture will it be an issue. We've got several maple pieces and my Vienna Acoustics are maple, which looks great in a bright, airy space. The grill is brown.Dave

As for build quality, I've got a Rowland amp to compare it to, which is made out of billet aircraft aluminum with a beautiful milled faceplate, machined buttons, etc. OTOH, my PD is not quite up to that level. It's just a smidge down. If the Rowla...

Mike, I'd never say "never." I think that all the components are there, but yet to be put together correctly. yes, optical readers have finally gotten very good, but flash hard drives have much potential.Dave
Mark Levinson 326S or Audio Research Ref 3 ?
07-06-08: Philjolet said:"The Absolute Sound magazine has reviewed the Ref 3 and says it is among the best pre amp ever made. I do not think there is any doubt of this..."I believe that GuidoCorona writes for TAS and owns a Ref 3, so you'd put a l...
SA-CD/DVD-A question?
I've got a Pioneer DV-58AV. Kal got the instructions right. In my system the 2-channel SACD always sounds far superior to the CD-layer. Pioneer's CD performance is average, but the SACD and DVD-A performance is very good.Dave

I did some comparison of CD to SACD and CD-layer vs. SACD-stereo-layer on some hybrid SACDs:I've only got a handful of discs with both a pure CD release AND a hybrid SACD. In every case, the original CD and the CD layer on the hybrid sound very di...
Jazz artists for late starter.
Gawdbless, I suspect you'd like all of Rosemary Clooney's stuff on Concord. It's jazz, but mostly due to the backing musicians. Rosey stays very close to the original and I can't remember her "scatting" for more than a measure or two.Dave
Ayre preamps with Krell amps?
Why not?

Yeah, shorten up those Monsters first and get good ICs for the CDP and TT next. I prefer Anaylsis Plus for great performance vs. value. If you can't spend that much, then Kimber or Audioquest are good compromises. (Forget about Monster).Down the r...
I Feel Overwhelmed....Please Help
Blindjim, you probably think all my posts are about you. I can assure you that's not true and there's no hidden message in each one designed to put your panties in a wad.In the OP's price range he's not likely to find tubes that equal the bass con...
