Playback Designs MPS-5. Tubes have nothing to do with it, IMHO.Dave
Received my Wadia i170 transport today.
Yeah, thanks Mrstark. Have you heard the mods? I wish they'd moved to a high quality digital output rather than going to the Vampire RCAs. The other mods make sense to me, but I'll be using it purely to get a digital signal to my Playback Design's...
How can we settle for digital?
For once, I agree with Mr. Feil. ;-)Dave
Help with integrated amp purchase
I'll third the Bel Cantos in the price range and with your B&Ws.Dave
Help with integrated amp purchase
You covered a wide range there, what's the top end of your budget? I don't think that we can make a meaningful suggestion without know how much money you're expecting to spend.Dave
"Best" of the "Universal" players ???.
Why would exclude blu-ray from "universal". It's a potential music format, just like DVD, CD, SACD, mp3, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if Oppo has a universal with blu-ray by the next CES.Dave
Confused by ICE applications
Yeah, the 102, 201, 501 and Capri are out of a single billet of aluminum, with all the attaching points machinced in to .003" tolerance. They're incredible. The face plates on the 312 and Continuum are single billets, the sides and backs are bille...
New EMM Labs DAC 2 or Accustic Arts Ref Tube DAC
The idea of tube rolling a DAC sounds crazy to me. At those prices, couldn't designer get it right?Dave
Confused by ICE applications
He's done a lot more with the 312 and Continuum, I'm told, but I haven't looked inside myself.Dave
How can we settle for digital?
Gs5556 said:"I think what your friend is trying to convey is that the actual retrieval process hasn't changed over the years..."Well, the upsampling schemes and clocks in DACs have changed a lot in the last 24-months or so.Dave
Confused by ICE applications
Damping factor is not a ICEPower characteristic per se. There's been a lot of discussion of DF in other threads. DF is only one of a series of things to consider when matching a speaker and amp and maximizing the amp's ability to control the speak...
How can we settle for digital?
My Playback Designs MPS-5 really does amazing things with my turdiest CDs. I've got $10,000 into digital and about $3000 in my analog TT and now, finally, consider them equally satisfying. Getting digital right ain't cheap, but it's being done. In...
Need Amp Recommendation
Jeff Rowland Design Group's Continuum 500 will give you everything you're seeking. If you must keep your pre-amp, then the Rowland 501s monos or the stereo 312 will give you what you seek.Dave
which interconnect cable w/ playback designs mps-5
I tried my MPS-5 into the Rowland Continuum 500 using the Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Oval RCA ICs with good results. I moved to the AP balanced ICs, giving the same overall balance and only slightly quieter background. Go balanced if your pre-amp ...
Speaker Suggestion for Conrad Johnson CA200 amp
I've owned a CA200 since early this year. I tried it with the Dali Helikon 400 and the Vienna Acoustic Beethoven Baby Grands. I thought that it worked best with the Baby Grands, giving richer, more detailed bass and smoother highs. If you have a st...
