Best all around speakers To Shadorne's point, last Saturday I listened to Mahler's 1st, which gets incredibly loud at several points when the average loudness is set around 85dB. Immediately after that I put on a Bruce Cockburn CD that had mysteriously arrived in the mail...
audiophile music servers the latest products, info Read the Stereophile review of the Sooloos. It's SQ was not up to the Benchmark DAC. That's not good any anyone's book, at least for a $10,000 piece.Dave
audiophile music servers the latest products, info Good points Arbuckle. I'm considering a Sooloos-like device because the interface could get other family members more involved in use of my system. Once you get started, there's no reason not to rip everyone elses music into the system. In my case...
Is it really the system? Bar81 said it well, our point of diminishing returns will always be personal. I will add that the point of diminishing returns changes with circumstances for many of us. I, for instance, went for decades with a $10,000 system, that was very stable...
"Best" of the "Universal" players ???. Hmm, interesting, Hotbird. Is the Accustic Arts available in the USA? If so, what's it's price in dollars? Have you heard one?Dave

Best all around speakers If you listen at average levels of 85 to 87dB, which is what I do, you'll hit peaks over 100dB. They don't last long and will not hurt those with healty ears. Dave
Reference Level Recording of Classical on CD's? The Mahler cycle by the SF Symphony with Michael Tilson Thomas conducting is pretty darn stunning in CD and SACD. The dynamic range is around 40dB and the orchestral colors are accurate and well captured. Mahler's 1st is probably the easiest for n...
Best all around speakers That was mastering really, wasn't it? No doubt it was in a pretty small room and, perhaps, some subs were integrated into the mix to get the full range, even in a smaller room.In an average room, without subs, IMHO, ELS 63s will be stretched beyon...
Rowland owners which speaker you use & recommend Yes, and his trumpet in live concert is processed. That's not a real trumpet sound. I'm not dissing him, he's a great trumpeter, but his sound is processed in all his performances. That contraption on his bell is a wireless mic, which then runs thr...
"Best" of the "Universal" players ???. Playback Designs, Emm, dCS, modded Esoteric and modded Denon come to mind.Dave
Best all around speakers To expand on Learsfool's theme, any one of the recent SACDs of Mahler by SF Syphony with Michael Tilson Thomas will test the limits of a speaker system. Symphony #1 and #6 have over 40dB of dynamic range, with huge sounds juxtiposed with almost si...
"Best" of the "Universal" players ???. IMHO, based on limited searching and listening to alternatives, there are several CD/SACD players that will likely top your Spectral, but no universal player. However, you can buy the Playback Designs MPS-5 and an Oppo or Pioneer DV-58AV to use as... |
