Loud background noise: cables picking up RF? You've gotten lots of great advice here. Please follow up to let us know what you figure out.If the ICs are a big help, then you're in one of those situations where almost every improvement you make will be noticeable. If that's the case, then I'd...
Jeff Rowland 501s and PC1s Actually, integrateds are pretty popular here.Dave
How much power is to much power? I like Musicnoise's post and agree about the Mahler, but actually think that just about any well recorded Mahler will do. The Finales of #1 and #6 will test any system.I'm a little surprise about the comment about piano sonatas. Well recorded pian...
Loud background noise: cables picking up RF? You don't have to recognize the sounds for it to be RFI. A whistle, as described, can be an RFI issue. Usually it's just low level hash, but it can present as actual radio signals.Of course, a whistle can be tube related also. I'd check all the tu...
Loud background noise: cables picking up RF? Yes, you should use shielded ICs and go to balanced mode if you pre-amp allows. RFI and EMI can get into your system through IC, PCs, chassis, etc. Start with the ICs; however, you may have to move toward a balanced system.Dave
How much power is to much power? As Newbee say, listen.During you listening sessions include music with heavy, low bass, including synth, acoustic bass and electric bass. Quite often, switching from one amp to another is very noticeable in the bass.Dave
How much power is to much power? I'm using 1000 watts into 4 ohms for my 91dB speakers. It's not a matter of speaker sensitivity or loudness, it's a matter of controlling the drivers. Speakers like Vienna Acoustics, B&W, Wilson, Dali and others have the best overall and bass ...
Burmester 069 In the US, if you're considering these players then you need to also consider the Playback Designs MPS-5. It'll be at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, in the Soundings high end room. For the price differences, you could afford the airfare to Denver a...
What are the best digital recordings I can buy ? Mapman, if you insist on native, then there are about 6000 SACDs available. That format, in a great player, rivals analog, IMHO. Already mention is DVD, but it doesn't have near as many discs and seems unlikely to produce more. Blu-ray is coming a...
Jeff Rowland 501s and PC1s Well Phous, I suspect that your system is very revealing and musical. Why don't you post a Virtual System so that we can see your setup? For someone that doesn't already have 201s or 501s, I'd suggest the Continuum 500. The C500 includes essentiall...
Which Headphone Amp in the $500 - $800 range Good advice about rolling around at headfi.orgI love my Woo Audio WA6 single-ended, class A headphone amp. I do suggest going ahead and ordering it with the upgraded rectifier tube.Dave
Confused by ICE applications I haven't heard the DarTZeel equipment yet, but I'm very confident that it's stunning; given the reviews I've seen from trusted sources. However, it's interesting to compare DarTZ and Rowland to see that there's more than one way to skin an audio ...
"Best" of the "Universal" players ???. Hah, I won my bet. Oh, I forgot to put money on it...darn.Dave
Is it worth buying an SACD player? Go to www.acousticsounds.com and look at the SACD collection. Does owning a good bit of that float your boat? If so, then get a player and start buying software while you still can. If anything is reissued on Blu-ray it'll be the same ole stuff an...
Confused by ICE applications In fact, on the Continuum the large flat surfaces of the chassis are ridged, to refract sound waves in those cases where it might be close to speakers. The tolerances on the Rowland chassis are .003". The nibs and screw threads for mounting boards... |
