Help chossing a good speaker. $ 3-5 K In Plano, go to High End Theatre and Audio to hear the Vienna Acoustics line, particularly the Beethoven Baby Grand. They're at 972-208-4382.Audio Concepts on Preston carries ProAc, which is another excellent speaker, my second choice to the Baby ...
Best power cables for Jeff Rowland 501 s ??? Someday soon I hope to take my Continuum 500 over to Soundings and compare it to the 501 with and w/o PC1 and the 312, but I haven't done it yet. Lacking a direct A/B, all I can say is that they're very much alike. I'm never struck with the feelin...
Best power cables for Jeff Rowland 501 s ??? Guido, I agree with every comparable that I've heard that you mentioned. Does any of this change when you put Power Factor Correction in front of the Capri?Dave
Connecting low-end DVD player to Bel Canto Dac3 Generally, if the CDP allows for digital coax out, then the upgrade will be significant. I send my iPod digital out via a Wadia 170i interface into my Playback Designs MPS-5 with truly amazing quality. The DAC3 will generally be a major improvemen...
Is analog & vinyl anoying? Is it worht it. Yeah Chris, I've been buying up MoFi's recent reissues. Every one has been outstanding in both mastering and pressing. I think they're new releases are as good as it gets.Dave
Favorite Speakers at RMAF I've only heard De Muzik from the Klimt series, but I have high hopes for the whole series, mainly because the midrange is so astounding. Apparently the midrange driver covers around 100hz to 18kHz with no crossover. I immediately heard the smooth...

Dali Helicon 400s with Classe amp I agree with Pierre, I think they'll work fine with the Classe'. I hope that your room has some large openings, because that's a small room for the 400s. You may need some bass traps to manage the sound.Dave
Linn Sondek Hype I've some excellent sounding Linns. If you're happy, stick with it.Linn turned me off way back in the 1970s with some rediculous hype (your thread title brought it to mind). They claimed that you couldn't sing along with direct drive TT. Of course...
How make my Ayre system "warmer"? Al suggested:"Which in turn suggests addressing the harmonic structure of the system's response, not just the frequency response. Meaning, very conceivably, increasing the amount of even-order harmonic distortion. Just what adding a tube-based cd ...
How make my Ayre system "warmer"? MrT, I agree with your definition of warmth, it's an inaccurate frequency response, as you describe. I find that many people say they want "warmth" but really mean that they want freedom from "edge" and "glare" and "shout." Generally you work thos...
How make my Ayre system "warmer"? Well, tell us about your room and speaker placement. Do female vocalists often seem "shouty" leading you to turn the volume down. If so, that's a symtem of poor speaker placement, with lots of intermodulation distortion in the room. Search for Sum...
How make my Ayre system "warmer"? I'd upgrade your source first. Ayre's high end stuff is very, very good, but expensive. If you want to take one step at a time, then buy the best CD/SACD player that you can afford. Move up in preamp first.SS is great and Ayre is one of the best. ...
