Great Jazz SACDs Thanks everyone. I bought a few this week. Tried Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. Compared to my Vinyl record. Vinyl beat the sound hands-down. Bought Pink Ployd DSOTM. Vinyl better.Bought two Diana Krall. Very happy. Sound good.My sense is that it is...
Use a gDVD/CD player as transport with a good DAC? Great everyone. Thanks for your help. I guess this was not a silver bullet. I am looking for one so if you have one let me know. In the meantime, I will continue my chase for perfect reproduction looking for used Theta and EAD gear. I certainly be...
Best turntable for Eminent Technology arm Thanks everyone for your response. I wish I could afford a Rockport Sirius myself. I will continue to dream. In the meantime I will probably stay with the Oracle. Thanks everyone.
Lenco Turntables? any info, opinions, thoughts? My good friend in the late 60's bought a L75. It was Ok, but nothing spectacular. Probably on par with some of the cheap Dual turntables. I believe the turntable rotated by a couple of rubber wheels that moved the platter, ie. no belt or similar. ...

Anyone heard of lumley tube amps?? I have a pair of M-100s. Bought them from Ray Lumley in 1984. Lumley and Grant were together first and produced the Grant Lumley amp. After the split Grant made the Grant amp and Ray produced the Lumley. Sweet tube sound. They were in business unti...
Are Tuners - Audiophile quality Thank you everyone. I do not feel as stupid as I did when I posted it. I have had my tuner connected to my big TV antenna, 30 feet above the roof. The TV antenna did not make any improvement. Sounds like rabbit ears. I live close to downtown Washi...
Are Tuners - Audiophile quality Continued - equally bad. My tuner produces the sound of a $ 100 turntable (including arm and cartridge) and less than any CD on the market. Does anyone know if you can get "audiophile quality" from a tuner. Any recommendation of a tuner that produ...

Spade termination on speaker Thanks everyone. Learned a lot. In the end figured out that I had some combined banana plugs for the speakers that allow to screw the spade into the top of the connector. The unit is brass and from a company called Mitchell. I bought them 15 years...
Spade termination on speaker Thanks a bunch for the reponses. No I know two sources for a set of spades to mount on the speakers. However, I am curious about the banana - spade connector. Is a spade to banana connector advisable? I am assuming it will introduce a new connectio...
Stacking power amps mono blocks Thanks everyone. Seems as I am not the only one struggling with this. Since I do not like the empty shelf in the stand, it look weird with a hole and 8 inch of air. I need to look into one of two options.1. Move the stereo so I can have one powera...
Treating speaker cones Thanks everyone. Seem as I may have listened to too much to Mr. Magician. Speakers still sound fine. But the audio bug makes me continue to think about tweaks.
Syrinx and Linn Basik Plus tonearms? I remember the Syrinx arm. It was great in the mid 80's. It is a very analytical and dynamic arm. Candidly it was better than the Ittok, Linn's high end arm. Use the Syrinx. I am sure it is a lot better than Linn Basic Plus. |
