Best Home Theater Processor Used 1K-3K Range
RW, are you an Emotiva dealer? Get an Emotiva seems to be your answer to any question about what to buy. Now my second question is why OP would be using analog outputs from an Oppo 103 rather than a 105?db
Computer vs CD/SACD discs
When I was thinking of a used Ayre C-5xeMP, I posed the question of this thread to John Atkinson, who lists the Ayre as one of his sources. His reply was that for convenience he uses computer audio; for high quality audio he uses the Ayre.I bought...
moving on from Emotiva UMC-200 pre/processor
Avgoround, your question about whether the Oppo has a volume control suggests you have never heard one and have little or no knowledge about the 95/105 analog capabilities. You can visit the Oppo 105 owners site at AVS for an extensive discussion ...
moving on from Emotiva UMC-200 pre/processor
Avgoround,I believe the source that was originally being considered as a substitute for a preamp was an Oppo BDP-105. The Oppo has very low output impedance and sufficient level to drive nearly any amp to full output. I use three analog sources, a...
moving on from Emotiva UMC-200 pre/processor
"Just remember, you WILL be losing out on the dynamics side of things, in absolute terms, going the passive route with your thiels!" Why would you make such a claim, Avgoround? What can an active preamp do for dynamic range? It amplifies both sign...
installing an ARC system
Thanks for the tip about Rives, Kal. Do you mean by not automatic that it is an multi-band equalizer that displays a spectrum and requires the user to set band levels manually?db
Which pre/pro under 3k?
Avgoround's suggestion of trying a preamp seems an expensive proposition if OP has buy it. The likelihood that an Oppo BDP-15 connected directly to the amps will prove satisfactory is so substantial the cost/value wouldn't seem to warrant the tria...
installing an ARC system
Kal has a bug for acronyms that I think is misleading or a least over limiting. For me the more general acoustic room correction is what I mean when I write ARC. I doubt Anthem has a copywrite on the acronym ARC.My understanding is that there are ...
moving on from Emotiva UMC-200 pre/processor
I concur with Tim's recommendation of the Oppo BDP-105 as an acting digital processor, but it will not accept analog source. I select among three analog sources, so I use a JC-2 preamp for stereo, take surround from the Oppo directly the amps, and...
Recommended 5.1 processor + amp under 10k
Another path to consider is integrating HT sound with the music system. I use an Oppo BDP-105 as the source for Blu-ray and DirecTV HD-DVR. Analog stereo from the Oppo goes through a Parasound JC-2 preamp to Proceed HPA amps that drive a pair of K...
...On to a more important "Home Theater" thread...
We sit about 11' from a 100" screen with images projected by a Sony VPL 50. I'm not aware of any pixels whether the source from the Oppo BDP-105 is Blu-ray or DirecTV HD-DVR. In fact, I'm always struck by the high quality of the picture and the so...
What happened with the SACD format?
Re Skinzy: I recently acquired an Ayre C-5xeMP that I'm using in place of the Sony XA5400ES for stereo (an Oppo BDP-105 does surround and HT). DSD sounds superb, but that's no surprise. The surprise is that CDs sounds so much better with the Ayre.db
It's All About Increments
Re the 2nd PPG of my 7/6 post: The Ayre C-5xeMP has been installed in my setup and is another of the most efficacious increments. Wow, what a difference. Music somehow sounds less recorded, if that makes any sense. I expected DSD to sound superb a...
It's All About Increments
Sabai writes, "For me, the key is getting to a point where you are happy with the sound of your system and no longer feel the urge to make further changes."I agree that's the key, and I think I've pretty much reached that point. Nevertheless, next...
Advise on 7.1 Channel Surround System & Speaker
I agree with the KEF LS55 suggestion, but I'd be inclined to skip the processor and let an Oppo 105 or 105D do speaker management and volume control. I'd buy two subs.Do you really want rear channels? I rarely turn on the amp that drives the rear ...
