Which is better,AV pre/pro o direct analog out?
avgoround, wouldn't the answer to which is better question depend on the analog processing capability of the BD player relative to that of the pre/pro.  I prefer the sound when the Oppo 105D sends digital to the Bryston SP3 for processing to analog.
Center channel?
I've been so impressed with the KEF LS50s in our living room, I've decided to use LS50s for LCR in the media room, with KEF R100s for side and rear surrounds -- square edges better for wall mounts.  In the living room, the LS50s are crossed at 80 ...
Center channel?
You should check the Oppo specifications for output voltage and impedance to assure they're suitable for your powered speaker; if the impedance ratio and voltage levels are appropriate, it should work. Some would argue that a meaningful film experi...
Great multichannel amps do not cut it in stereo
Superior is a comparative.  Superior to what?
KEF Reference 107/2s + KEF LS50s
I unplugged the XLR connector, lifted the heads, set the LS50s where the heads had been, and connected the mid/HF biwire to the LS50s -- the 107/2s are set up for biwiring. I didn't adjust the KUBE. The combination sounded very good, but the R107/...
Do I need a pre-amp?
After reading OP's 11/13/15 post, I rest my case. He's very confused about audio, but has a romantic notion about vinyl.db
Do I need a pre-amp?
"As for the rest of it, its good to know how you do things. Its like a carefully plotted course that we should all follow."Zd542, Why the snarky sarcasm? My point was simply why would OP allocate money to a frill like a TT when he appears less tha...
Do I need a pre-amp?
Zd542, my comments have been aimed at OP's motivation for vinyl, given the other components he's using. If my house had a leaky roof, I'd be unlikely to be shopping for a gazebo. In the age of very fine digital sound, vinyl seems an audiophile ind...
Do I need a pre-amp?
Inna, my impression from OP's post was that he might not have the knowledge base to make an informed decision about vinyl, nor with his equipment might he be able to appreciate the distinction (whatever that might be) in sound between an analog an...
Do I need a pre-amp?
I'm having trouble imagining a guy who uses an AVR and wants the bother of vinyl. A good digital source would seem more fitting.db
Great multichannel amps do not cut it in stereo
As an instantiation of avgoround's suggestion, I use an analog Parasound JC 2 BP preamp with a pair of JC 1 mono blocks for stereo; for mch and HT I use a Bryston SP3 prepro, the front LR of which passes through the JC 2 BP to access the JC 1s whi...
Great multichannel amps do not cut it in stereo
I doubt OP's contention would stand scrutiny as a general statement. What about 3 mono blocks packaged in a single case rather than 2 for stereo, e.g. some of the Levinson amps? I would guess there are multichannel amps that sound better for stere...
Sound Quality of Direct TV audio
Why not you use HDMI from the Genie to the Outlaw?db
Sound Quality of Direct TV audio
Our DirecTV HD DVR HR44-200 connects to an Oppo 105D via HDMI that in turn connects to a Bryston SP3 via HDMI. Program material often lights up subs crossed at 40 Hz mains and 80 Hz center and surrounds.db
need help with subwoofer setup. crossover related
The crossover is not a brick-wall filter. You might try setting it to an octave above the 3 dB rolloff of your speakers, or even to the oft recommended 80 Hz. You might find it cleans up the sound if your amps and speakers are relieved of extreme ...
