Choosing a CD or SACD player over my Oppo BDP 95 When I used analog XLR from my Oppo 105 and Sony 5400ES, I preferred the sound with the Sony, especially for SACD. Now I use HDMI from both, and a Bryston SP3 does the analog processing. I'll be moving the Sony to a second setup that will use it...
Parasound JC2 compatibility with Quicksilver v4's Sounds like BS from a dealer who wants to sell you a preamp. I use my JC 2 with a pair of JC 1 mono blocks, but then I don't care for tube artifacts. Both the JC 1 and 2 have gotten rave reviews and A ratings by Stereophile.
Universal Players vs. Dedicated CD/SACD Players I'm not sure OP told us where the output of the 95 goes. Oppos can provide many of the functions of a processor or they can be used as spinners if HDMI is taken to a pre/pro.Balanced analog from my Ayre C-5xeMP goes to a Parasound JC 2 BP, but HD...
What centre channel are you using? I'm trying a KEF LS50 for center with KEF Reference 107/2s front LR and LS50s side and rear surrounds. A round of pink noise reveals the LS50s match the big 107/2s well, and the sound for music and HT is superb.
I have seen some Interesting comments about Mcintosh lately My impression, perhaps too limited in scope, is that the Mac reputation was built on the MC60. We had a bunch of them in the labs. Their new glitzy products seem the antithesis of that amp.
Center and Mains If you can't match LCR speakers you might set the menu of your processor to center speaker = none so the processor will generate a phantom center image. I think that is better than a timbre mismatch.
What centre channel are you using? I'm using a KEF R600C with a pair of Reference 107/2s, but that's beside the point. Timbre matching of LCR is crucial. Or you could try a phantom center by setting the menu of your 8802A to no center speaker. If you sit near the apex of a triang...
Best SACD/CD player I use three players for different purposes, an Ayre C-5xeMP for stereo, a Sony XA5400ES for surround, and an Oppo 105D for HT. The Ayre goes through a Parasound JC 2 to JC 1 mono blocks to KEF 107/2s; the Sony and Oppo go via HDMI through a Bryst...
Oppo 105D as media center The obvious answer is for OP to listen to the unmodded Oppo 105D insitu for a month or so before deciding if any mod is needed in OP's judgement. I'm guessing the decision will be no.
Parasound A21 question - can I use both balanced and unbalanced input on the amp? BTW: I'm pretty sure you can connect both balanced and single-ended without problem, but I'm also pretty sure you will need to switch the A 21 input each time you switch from music to movies. But you really should contact Parasound.PS: An obvio...
Parasound A21 question - can I use both balanced and unbalanced input on the amp? Send an email to richard@parasound.com. Richard Schram, the CEO, is very helpful and prompt in replying. The A 21 is a very nice amp. I use mine with balanced input from an Oppo 105 to drive a pair of KEF LS50s with excellent results. The Oppo...
Which is better,AV pre/pro o direct analog out? I can only address Q2: Unless Modwright changed it, all the outputs of the Oppo BDP-105D should be active, and taking the balanced or single-ended LR from the 105D to your Macintosh rather than LR of surround is the way to go. Check the setup ad...
Is the move up to Parasound Halo A21 worth it? I have two A 23s, an 21, and three JC 1s. I use the 23s for side and rear surrounds, but briefly used one to drive a pair of KEF LS50s before I replaced it with the A 21. I thought the LS50s sounded anemic with the A 23 and lacked the sense of p...
Stepping up to the next level ? HT and Music re my 2/22/15 post: I've since added a Bryston SP3 that takes HDMI from an Oppo BDP-105D and Sony XA5400ES, and passes front LR via its zone function to a Parasound JC 2 BP analog preamp. It also sends LCR directly amps, so there can be separate...
Universal Players vs. Dedicated CD/SACD Players I think my Oppo 105 sounds superb playing DTS-HD MA or Dolby True-HD BDs, but I much prefer my Ayre C-5xeMP for playing CDs and SACDs. |
