Need suggestions for new speakers under $5K
If you want to blow yourself away... check out the Audiogon speaker section and look for a pair of Hales T-8's. These speakers are amazing and the price is right in your wheelhouse.

LOL... Looks like we are in search of the same criteria. You being a GMA man I'm surprised you aren't considering the C-3. I imagine your concern is the same as mine... narrow sweet spot. You may want to also throw in Anthony Gallow's Ref. III's. ...
Why do only US makers focus on time coherency?
Thanks Sean, I thought the Hales were almost identical in design to Theil's speakers. I stand corrected.
Why do only US makers focus on time coherency?
No, there is no such thing as a "best speaker design", but not all speakers are created equally. I think speaker design/theory/approach/methodology/materials etc. is extremely important, otherwise designers wouldn't spend the extraordinary number ...

LOL! I'm still doing research!! ;-) I'm well beyond analysis paralysis, I've officially got Jean Quary's disease... flip-floppatosis! I'm actually going through a major speaker design theory shift right now. I have time/phase coherent speakers, so...

Sean - here is the link to the thread I started last week.http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?cspkr&1090433671&read&3&4&Personally, I'm struggling with the choice between time and phase based designs and others such as Ohm,...

Phasecorrect - then one throws in the whole Walsh 360 degree design theory into the mix as we did last week and it becomes even more baffling! ;-)
Best combo - integrated amp/ speakers/$8,000
I'd go with a Bel Canto SS amp and a pair of SP Technology Continuums, as space seems to be an issue.
Anyone heard SP Technology loudspeakers?...
Thank you, I read it this morning and I must admit the SP's have peaked my curiosity. However, besting VMPS RM-40's doesn't seem to be an extremely high benchmark to overcome. Not that they are poor speakers, because I've read nothing but glowing ...
GMA Europa discontinued?
Abruce & nathangor... instead of speculating on Roy's intentions, marketing motives or the like I would encourage you to give Roy a call and talk to him personally. I've spoken to Roy several times on the phone, the first time when he called m...

Ecclectique - regarding the Duevel's and Tannoy's. With respect to the Duevel's I've read some reviews on the Bella Luna and they sound very promising, with some inherent limitations. You can probably get some dealer info. from this site: http://w...

Cdc - I think you may be on to something. A few years ago when I was auditioning speakers I visited a B&W dealer and was amazed at how narrow the sweet spot was for virtually all their speakers except the most expensive Nautalus series. The de...
Hales owners discussion
Mitchb - thanks for the details. It sounds interesting and certainly worth a look given the cost to find something that exceeds the Hales.
Hales owners discussion
If they sound better, why would they be harder to sell? You say the Seas Millinium tweeter gives it a whole new sound. Can you elaborate - old sound versus new.
Do 1st Order XO's produce a smaller
Konus Audio Systems (http://www.konus-audio.com) single driver speakers are supposed to be even better than the Carolina Audio version. Having said that, I've read enough reviews on single driver designs to suspect they just don't demonstrate the ...
