New Yggdrasil - First (and second) Impressions
My suspicion on your probable end resulta) the Emotiva and the Oppo are physical transport solutions and as such cannot give you the highest resolution with either their built in DAC or the Yggdrassil. Think of them as equivalent to a basic Rega t...
Best practices when conducting a DAC comparison
My way to audition a new DAC is with music (a) that I am very familiar with (b) with a mixture of recordings that I love and hate on the existing DAC. Recordings one loves should sound equally as good or better with a new DAC. Just as important ...
Schiit Yggdrasil -- 21 bit?
Awful lot of people obsessing here over measurements, one could almost mistake this for the Stereo Review website. Whatever happened to relying on A/B comparisons for what sounds better...
Can a Quality Full Range Speaker be the Limiting Component in a system?
I will say that most box speakers for me are a failure because of cabinet sound coloration and because in the mid to lower bass you can hear non linearity in the excursion of the driver. But these are price point cost driven limitations that can b...
Seeking Advice on NOS DAC
If you like the non over sampled sound, multibit Schitt or La Scala are excellent choices with the Schitt “Gumby” being quite a bargain and the “Yiggy” of reference quality. I’d advise frequenting Computer Audiophile for opinions on DAC’s as Agon ...
New Yggdrasil - First (and second) Impressions
Makes me wonder how many who said they couldn't hear a difference didn't get good advice on investing in a good quality digital front end. One of the reasons I seldom frequent Agon is because its so far behind the digital frontier. Names like Lumi...
Any Rethm Bhaava owners?
The digital setup at CAF seemed good but I think the Qualiton amp may not have been quite what was needed. I'm suspecting it used normal diodes for power bridge rectification. In my DIY dabbling, I've found that fast diodes are essential in the br...
Is it worth adding a Schiit Audio Eitr?
PS.. I've just ordered an Eitr since I have to use an external with the first generation Metrum Octave. I go thru a new asynch converter each year as they keep improving, used a Gustard U12 with Aries mini, then found the iFi Nano to be a better m...
Is it worth adding a Schiit Audio Eitr?
I believe this is just a board upgrade/ swap for you... not sure why you wouldn't go that route  vs adding yet another cable into the signal path?
Schiit Eitr with Aurender N100H
Looks like Aurender and Auralic support DoP  but not DSD to native PCM. See link below for Auralic Vega. That would still leave you limited to DSD128http://www.auralic.com/download/dsd_playback_setup.pdf
Small room electrostat/ planar speaker?
no open end for the room, closing the door essential for wife sanity ;<)
Small room electrostat/ planar speaker?
I'm hopeful about bass as the room has 10' ceilings. Maggies have always required careful positioning for the lowest bass octave because they are dipoles.  If they don't work out in the space, I've collected so far from everyone's feedback as poss...
Small room electrostat/ planar speaker?
I'll have to do some research on the ESL 57's. Believe I heard a modified pair shown off by DIYAudio member at the Capital Audiofest  2 years ago,was one of  the few systems at the show that got me to sit down and stay. Wondering if they would mat...
Small room electrostat/ planar speaker?
I took a look online at the ClairAudients 1+1, they are sold through TweekGeek and their site advises the speaker needs to be placed at least 5 ft away from the wall, same as the MG 1.7's, which is a no go in an 11x12 room. Pity since 1 reviewer c...
Magnepans
I own MG1.7's and run them off a Prima Luna tube integrated which with KT150's has about 60 watts. The room size is 600 sq. feet. About the only time I have a power issue is with low bass, you do need more wattage for "growly" bass but  given the ...
