The Magnificent Magnepan 30.7 speakers....wait, I don’t like planars!
@stickman451 I also heard the Maggie 30.7’s with Mcintosh gear...which I don’t feel is the best synergy with these speakers. ( although the amps do have the necessary drive to power the panels well)I asked Wendell what is the minimum size room for...
The Magnificent Magnepan 30.7 speakers....wait, I don’t like planars!
@tweak1 In my OP, I stated the new 30.7’s are ’not your father’s Maggie’s’Your description of your older model was exactly what I and many others had experienced with these speakers. Frustration was the word. OTOH, the new 30.7’s seem to have addr...

@pryso i am not so sure that the Maggie’s don’t sound a lot better with the rear wave attenuated. At the demo, the speakers were initially  about 5+’ from the rear wall, one of our members moved them back about 6”and they definitely sounded better...

@josh358 That is exactly correct. The 30.7's require a very large room. Plus, they seem to also need acoustic treatment behind them to control the rear wave. Additionally, I think they probably truly benefit from at least bi-amping and probably qu...

@joey_v Your comment is interesting. However, unfortunately that has never stopped any of the numerous other competitors from pricing their wares in the stratosphere...regardless of what goes into them, LOL.

@don_c55 you have an excellent point. The Snob appeal of these speakers is basically non existent.( Although for the music lover, or as JV put it...the person who is an Absolute Sound listener, the 30.7’s are truly impressive!) I asked Wendell why...

@seanheis1 I think the Tekton’s would be severely outclassed...most dynamic speakers are going to have a very hard time keeping up with these Maggie’s. OTOH, I suspect the Tekton’s will work in a much greater number of rooms.
What's happened to the used high end market recently?? Sales are tough....:0(
Yesterday at THE show in Irvine, Calif, I had a very interesting conversation with one of the manufacturer’s who was displaying his wares. He is going to be bringing to market a great new product. We discussed his pricing strategy for this product...
Why so many linn lp12s for sale
@vinny55 hold on there a minute. How many of the other tables that are even 20-25 years old, even have the possibility of replacing a faulty bearing??Which particular era of Linn are you talking about? The new Cirkus bearing is a pretty major step...
New D'Agostino Monoblocks...$250,000
I think a lot of us forget that a $250K amp is extremely affordable for certain consumers. If you are making $250K a week, or a day, you get the picture. What baffles me a little, is why Dan chose that actual price. Clearly he has a certain market...
Groove Glide. Yeah, nay or maybay???
Gruv Glide is excellent for reducing noise on used LP's. I have used it for years, but generally avoid using it on new pressings...no real need to do that. OTOH, a VG+ LP can be greatly improved with a single application of Gruv Glide. It certainly...

@fstein Maybe, except what you stated doesn't account for the 'collapse'.
I hate biasing!
As a prior owner of a ARC D series amp...which I actually thought was a phenomenal amp, I can definitely say that the biasing scheme was -----------criminal!My new tube amp has auto biasing, which has elevated this once serious concern to a non en...

@terpstation, I don’t happen to believe the millennial generation is not interested in the sound of actual instruments. I think that millennials have a great deal of choice in which to spend their hard earned money, if...BIG IF, HEA was more affor...
What Matters and What is Nonsense
@ronres+1The OP has certainly some very strong opinions...and those he is entitled to. OTOH, Ron is 100% correct IMHO ( notice how I use the IMHO --in my humble opinion, something that the OP would do well to sprinkle around in his post....again I...
