Small dedicated listening rooms
Duke brings up some very good points. Adding multiple small subs is beneficial, as it will smooth out the overall response. Unfortunately, adding more subs brings its own problems...and that is getting them to blend invisibly into the mix. Not to ...
EAT C-Sharp Turntable anyone owned or demoed it??
@luxmancl38 Are you able to bring your Linn to that demo?IMO, you would be crazy to go from the Linn to the C- Sharp. Your current Linn has some great upgrade options. For instance, you could change out the tonearm to an Ekos ( which I would chang...
EAT C-Sharp Turntable anyone owned or demoed it??
I haven’t heard the C sharp, but I did recently hear the C Major at a friends house. The C Major comes with a removable dust cover...well sort of removable,as the mechanism that it uses to attach to the plinth is a kludge at best. IMO a very poor ...
Small dedicated listening rooms
That's very small...but depending on the ceiling height and a few other factors, it can indeed be made to work. I would suggest a stand mount speaker for a room of this size. Along with a small sub--like the REL T0 or similar. Look at my system th...
What is the average lifespan of a phono cartridge?
@bpoletti I don't agree. Once the groove is damaged, that is going to severely impact the SQ of the record, period. Just because your stylus is tracking a slightly different section of the groove...which may or may not be true, doesn't mean to say...
What is the average lifespan of a phono cartridge?
@chakster that is exactly right. I have a friend who has destroyed numerous valuable records that he owns while playing old SPU’s and other London’s etc., Poor guy didn’t realize that the stylus was worn out, even though the suspension seemed to b...
What is the average lifespan of a phono cartridge?
Here’s a question... what does a worn out cartridge look like...and better still...sound like?if we all agree that just one pass of a worn out stylus will ruin your record, then determining that your cartridge is worn out...is going to cost you a ...
Simon and Garfunkel "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" MOFI UD1S
The problem with BOTW is that the master tape leaves a lot to be desired. As such, any reissue is IMO going to suffer in the SQ department. Pity that this is the case, as the music is superb. Music Direct picked this tile for its obvious appeal an...
Low power tube amp for Sonus Faber?
I use a 45 watt/ch tube amp with my SFGH’s...a superb match. However, the answer to your question involves many variables. The size of your room, the particular tube amp you are going to go with...and it’s ability to drive lower impedance loads, t...
The Magnificent Magnepan 30.7 speakers....wait, I don’t like planars!
@stromberg1937.   Nice combo. Brystons should have no problem driving the Maggie’s
The Magnificent Magnepan 30.7 speakers....wait, I don’t like planars!
@stromberg1937.   Congrats! Superb speakers. I think you will have one heck of a grin on your face when these finally show up in your room. What ancillary gear are you planning on using with them?
REL Subwoofer: Speakon or RCA?
@mzkmxcvgreat post, you know this as a total fact and you have heard all of the possible combinations of Rel and ancillary gear.Nice to know your opinion...even though you conveniently forgot to add....imho.IMHO.
The Magnificent Magnepan 30.7 speakers....wait, I don’t like planars!
@hyperduel At the demo that I attended, Wendell was nice enough to let us play with the set-up. We first listened to his set-up, which was very good, and then we experimented a little, pushed the speakers a little back to the rear wall and then ch...
REL Subwoofer: Speakon or RCA?
Speakon is the way to go...BUT be very careful how you do the set up and look at the videos above. Speakon is a balanced connection and that needs to be considered when hooking up to a balanced amp. There are other variables depending on your amp ...
Are subs worth the price for music?
IMO, it will depend on your room size.( Very large and it is a definite, very small...maybe not so much-or at all) With Vandy 3A's, I believe you could certainly get some nice bottom end extension and an increase in dynamic portrayal with a smalli...
