Why LCD and Plasma? 37
Rear projection TV's such as DLP's require bulb replacement every few years...around $200 each. With flat panel prices falling almost weekly, you can buy an LCD or plasma, get a better picture and no maintainence expense.
Flat screens?
Remember that the TV is only half of the equation...an HD source, either over-the-air, cable, or satellite is the other half...standard cable or even satellite is going to look about the same as it does on your old TV. A good quality progressive s...
nht bookshelf differences- sb0, classic, superzero
I disagree with Timshu...I've owned SuperOnes, SuperZeros, 1.3a's, 2.9's, 3,3's etc and recently, the SB3's, which I thought were not built as well or sounded as good as the older models...my opinion only!
Any information about the Classe 5L pre-amp?
I don't have the specs, but I do own this pre-amp and it matches well to my Classe 25 amp, which is driving my NHT 3.3's. It's a very neutral sounding pre and is built rock solid.
NHT 3.3s -- too big for my room?
Carl:Contact me regarding available NHT 3.3's. BTW, Bryston would be a good match, along with the older Classe amps, i.e Classe 15 or 25.Dave

Mesa Boogie Tube amps interested in your thoughts
Yes, I've owned two Barons and two Tigris integrated in the past few years. The Baron is a monster tube amp that will drive about any speaker out there, but make sure the unit has had the upgrades done do it. Mesa still provides service and parts ...
Buyer Beware of Late Part 2
I think the easiest way to flush out the scammers is to state that you'll pick the item up in person and pay cash...what honest seller wouldn't rather sell his item face-to-face and get the cash? If they don't respond or give some bullsh*t answer,...
buyer beware of late
See my Buyer Beware of Late Part 2 for my latest dealings with the thieves!
buyer beware of late
I've been messing with the obviously fake ad posters the last two days. I respond by stating I'll be in their city this weekend and will stop in to take a look in person with the cash in hand. Funny...not one response from the thieves!
Upconverting DVD Player Through Component?
None. If you don't use the HDMI or DVI connection, you won't benefit from the upconversion. It will be progressive scan thru component cables, but not upconversion.
Thoughts on Plasma, LCD, DLP and which way to go
Plasma. Prices have dropped considerably to the point you can buy a quality 50" set (Panasonic, Samsung, Philips) for under $4000. Rear LCD and DLP projo's are great, but you'll be replacing the bulb every one to two years at about $250-$300 each....
Do You Have a Homemade Record Cleaning Machine?
I can't remember where I found them, but I came across a set of plans using an old turntable and vacumn cleaner housed in a box....and then I bought a VPI 16.5! For what they sell for used ($350), I think the VPI is the way to go.
Best speakers under $650
Magnepan MMG for $550 with a free 60-day trial...you can't go wrong! Mine just keep sounding better everytime I play them.
What did YOU get for Christmas?
Sennheiser HD580 headphones, Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" SACD, AC/DC's "Live At Donnington" DVD....and a really nice pair of gloves!
