Recommendations for Speakers
You can't beat the uncolored voice reproduced by the proprietary Radial driver found in Harbeth speakers. I use the Compact 7 ES-II, which is more of a "home" version of their BBC studio monitors. I hope one day you can hear these, they are right ...

Thank you, Marco. It seems many Agoners are quite tolerant of stupid questions.Charlie

Here is one that many of you would enjoy:Dr. John, Duke Eleganthttp://www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?pfid=1811825This is not a new album, (2000,) but is a great New Orleans funkified salute to Duke Ellington. A great way to get a taste of jazz ...
Front row SPLs; do you listen too loud?
I think you all have spoken well. As we all search for the best representation we can get of the original performance, proper listening levels are important, and at least now I know those values when it comes to orchestral music. For me, loud is p...
Front row SPLs; do you listen too loud?
OK. Obviously rock concerts are much louder, and you may want to recreate that on occaision. Have you ever measured your typical in house volume levels when listening? Do you want to still hear the Dead in 10 years? My eardrums were a bit stimulate...

Add a subwoofer or not for two channel only?
Get a sub, friend!

Baileyje,As to B&W speakers...if you like them, I recommend you buy them! (I was just referring to the most common complaint from those that did not find them to their liking.) Room acoustics and speaker positioning are varied, so it makes sen...

Great question, Baileyje, and another subject of controversy in the audiophile community. 90% here would recommend a metal stand where the floor:stand:speaker are all coupled rigidly with things like spikes, or the like, at each interface. On the ...
I would like advice for a beginner.
Baileyje,Those that do not prefer B&W find their tweeters too bright, (which is the current "audiophile voicing," by the way.) As a musician, I think you will find an amazing amount of innacuracy in many speakers favored by audiophiles, often ...
I would like advice for a beginner.
Your musical experience and listening tastes, which I happen to share, would be best served by a monitor of the BBC heritage as they really do voice right. My suggestions, which are just out of your budget, typically, are Harbeth or Spendor. Many ...
