Gallo ref 3.1 cable question
I don't use the 2nd voice coil on my 3.1s. But if I did I'd get something that could deliver lots of current. I'd probably end up at Home Depot buying some 12/14 gauge solid copper conductor in-wall house wiring wire. Sure it would be a bit stiff,...
New Gallo 3.5's
HI Doug,I'd have to agree that the midrange is a bit depressed with the 3.1s. I replaced a pair of KEF 104/2s which have incredible midrange projection with the Gallo 3.1s. While the Bass is deeper and tighter, the treble comparable but with much ...
Why buy cheap speakers??
That makes three of us. If you don't have a good source and amplification chain, you can't pick the right speakers for your room. IMO, speakers are very personal and have the most variability in sound. Or put another way, there are more trade-offs...
My Woofer Sounds Like a Tweeter
Nah, just:1) put on some music at a low volume & turn off the amp2) disconnect the main speaker wire from the main speaker terminals3) make sure the speaker wire tips don't touch!4) turn on the amp (repeat step 3)5) touch the speaker wire ends...
My Woofer Sounds Like a Tweeter
Theo is right - disconnect the speaker terminals from the speaker wire. Then just touch the speaker cable directly to the woofer (at low volume and don't let the speaker wire tips touch each other). Can't get any simpler than that: no jumpers requ...
Which cable has most impact - IC, Spkr., power?
The best results will be to find the right cable between the pre-amp and the amp and the right wire between the amp and the speakers. Why? Because no matter which source you select, the signal will travel over this path. Next, find the right cable...
My Woofer Sounds Like a Tweeter
I would assume the woofer is toast before the xover is fried. Theo's advise is good, but not sufficient. If you can, remove (or just disconnect the woofer from the xover and connect it up directly to the amp (at low volume). If if sounds like a wo...
Best tubed pre-amp w/phono stage for ss amps?
http://www.transcendentsound.com/Not fancy but Bruce's OTL amps have won Stereophile class A ratings. The grounded grid and matching phono preamp would meet your sonic requirements. May not meet your aesthetic or single box requirements. DanPS Mod...
Two questions about....?
Yep, cables are like 5% of the sound. Focus on the system components first, and then upgrade your cables over time as you find good deals. Or never, if you're happy with the sound of your system as it is.IMO, people who hear vast differences betwe...
are all amps equal
Don,I'm with you and don't believe in spending a lot for cables. That said, I have Kimber Hero interconnects, which are fairly well regarded and on the low end of the audiophile spending spectrum. I got my speaker wire at an estate sale for cheap....
DIY balanced interconnects

I say the $800 Emotiva would make an excellent subwoofer amplifier. Buy the Mac for your Ushers, and the Emotiva for your new passive. Now everyone except your wife is happy and you're broke... just the way it should be :)
Best CD
Anything Steely Dan is well recorded and will make your system sound great. Second Eva Cassidy Live at Blues Ally. Also I like Dave's True Story: Play "Miss Lucy" for your guests and see what happens :)In all honesty, I'm in the camp that people w...
