Why Can't Tubes Be Mass-Produced Cheaply?
Thanks, Sidssp. That is good advice and probably true for some of the small tubes I've tried. However, some of the NOS power tubes I've tried were purchased from very reputable dealers. Some of these have a wonderful mid-range but offer this at a ...
Why Can't Tubes Be Mass-Produced Cheaply?
Don't sell current production tubes short. In many cases these can be as good and even better than high dollar NOS tubes. There are always exceptions, but I have found that the NOS tubes I have tried ended up rolling off the highs and/or lows.
Why does my vinyl sound so bright?
How clean is your stylus? A gooped up stylus can make things sound garbled and distorted. As for the original problem, I'll vote with Eldartford. I think you are discovering that where ever and on what ever the table was originally sited was causin...
Blue Note 45rpm reissue
I have to say in all fairness that I have found a couple of minor issues with my copy of Kenny Drew's Undercurrent. The 1st LP does have a slight dish warp and some distortion in the lead out groove, just a second or two after the music ends. Neit...
Blue Note 45rpm reissue
I received my first two copies of this series yesterday. They are actually the second two in the series. Guess I'll have to specifically order the first two. I have done a visual inspection of both but only had time to listen to Lou Donaldson. Bot...
Mounting of a tonearm.
Tshulba, welcome to the whacky, insane world of vinyl! Sounds like you've discovered my number 1 rule of thumb. First assume the simplest (dumbest in my case) scenario and work your way up.

Isn't someone offering mods for the Squeezebox?
OK, record is now clean, how about the Stylus?
So if a stylus gunks up after 5-10 LPs, how does it happen? Does it keep some kind if counter, decide it's been enough plays and so allows the gunk attach? Or, does it happen little by little with each play? What makes more sense to you?
OK, record is now clean, how about the Stylus?
Is 200x enough power for ya'? Even that will not show everything that may be adhered to the diamond. I know it's as clean as I can get it. I trust the person who recommended cleaning after each LP side. BTW, you do brush the stylus after each side...
OK, record is now clean, how about the Stylus?
Why wait till it's gummed up? And there is a good probability that there is stuff there that you can't see even with your microscope.Just to keep the pot stirred, did you also know that you shouldn't play a given track on a record twice in success...
What is the ideal weight/mass for a turntable?
Chris, I wish you had chimed in on the suspension vs. non-suspension thread. Probably would have saved me from butchering the subject. :-)Granite rings like a bell: please explain, any data or proper observations on this?It does. You can google an...

Oh! So you're one of those sons of b****s that sold us that crap that clogged our records and stylii. And, when did you say before? It's not always what you see on the stylus, but rather what you don't see build up on the stylus. With the ME there ...
OK, record is now clean, how about the Stylus?
I was shown the light as to the Magic Eraser. That is all I use now. Just a light, careful brushing with a soft stylus brush and the ME, followed by another brushing, after each LP side. Personally, I don't like the idea of adding anything to the ...
Blue Note 45rpm reissue
Just got notification that my first two copies have been shipped. Can't wait to track the quality of these given that RTI is pressing them, or so I understand. Hopefully, the guys at Music Matters have a good process in place that may stand as a m...
Suspended vs. non suspended turntable
Maybe we should start a new thread. Seems like we're getting farther and farther away from Amfibius' topic. I'm really not setup to do this test. No headphones, no SACD or DVD-A.
