preamp vs. no-preamp My experience has been the same as TOK2000. I have never had any luck running a cdp direct. Pre-amp does more than just control volume it is really the first level of control in your system. In my system the pre-amp has always had the biggest impa...
tube preamps I recommend a Conrad Johnson Premier 17ls you should have no problem finding one within your budget, or 16ls (used) if you can stretch a bit; both have remote. Bigkdz makes a good point Pass Labs are not known for brightness. I have found them to ...
Best phono pre-amp You should also consider Conrad Johnson.Chuck
Why are you here? ...music or equipment Im in the same boat as the other two posters. But sometimes I wonder. Chuck
Urgent help: fuse breaker box for dedicated line? In all seriousnesss with the kinds of questions you are asking you need to hire an electrician. I would hate to see you destroy your equipment or worse burn up your living quarters. At least go to an Electrical Supply house near you and ask questi...
I'd like to get a tube preamp recomendation Tok20000 makes a good point, however, if you are so inclined I would consider either a CJ premier 17 or if your budget alows a 16ls II. I understand Blue Circle as well as BAT makes some very good tube pre-amps as well. Contact a couple of dealers...
Backing Away from Stereophile Class A I agree with 1-4. I have no experience with DAC's and do not necessarily agree with 6; although I do support a quality amplifier not necessarily an expensive one. I have found that the pre-amp has the greatest impact on the quality of the music co...
HELP Electrocompaniet stole Christmas EMC and or the distributor should support the product irrespective of its origins.I would not support a compnay that does not support its products. I would sell it and move on. There are other very good players out there from more reputable manufa...
Best electronics for Thiel CS3.6 ? I am running Thiel 3.6's with a CJ MF2500A and a CJ Premier 16ls II pre-amp. I find the combination extremely revealing and detailed with a soundstage the is both wide and deep.I have used a CJ 17ls in the past and found that to be a very good com...
Conrad Johnson - MV60 - anyone heard one? I can not speak for the MV60. I did have a Premier 11a and absolutely loved it. I replaced it with a CJ MF2500A. I feel CJ amps are very smooth / detailed and accurate with their tube amps being among the best in the business.Chuck
Buying a used amp for $2500 with out auditioning If you decide on the Conrad Johnson I would make sure that it is the "A" version. It is more detailed than the non "A" version. The Pass X250 is also a good choice but it will be a bit more expensive than your $2500 dollar limit.Chuck
Virtually lost, a minimalist cries out for "help." Tireguy I second your opinion concerning the Accuphase DP-75V being the best one box redbook player out there. In reponse to running direct I felt the soundstage lost dimensionality specifically the third dimension (depth). The music became rather...
dedicated line - yet another question concerning tswhitselI believe you are refering to 14/2 or 12/2 not 14/3 or 12/3.Three conductor has one black, one white, one red, and a bare copper groung; 4 wires total. Two conductor has one black, one white, with a bare copper ground; 3 wires total.Chuck
should I upgrade my amp I agree and second bob bundus's comment concerning the pre-amp it is the most important component in your system.Chuck
dedicated line - yet another question concerning Are you asking about a dedicated line or circuit? If line then do what mkfischer suggests. However, I believe it is a huge over kill for what you are hooking to it. If what you want is a dedicated circuit then go with a 20amp breaker and 10/2 rome... |
