| Is it save to convert XLR to RCA? +1 to all the above. I use Cardas XLR > RCA adapters to connect preamp to subwoofers. Cardas disconnected pin 3 for me at no extra charge. | |

| What makes a bigger change, dac or preamp? You can get a DAC that _is also_ a pre. I tried the Benchmark DAC1 Pre for this purpose, found its sound not to my taste, and settled happily with a Wyred4Sound DAC-2. | |
