VAC Signature Preamplifier mkII Another VAC fan here. I have been using VAC Auricle 70 monoblocs for a couple of years and only recently picked up a Renaissance MKII pre (not the signature) with built in MM/MC, which I am thrilled with. The phono section is very quiet and sounds...
Oppo BDP-83 - problem playing DTS-HD master audio I suggest posting your question in the oppo thread here:http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=149
battery powered with 'vivid' sound I've experimented with battery power quite a bit over the past year, using the Dodd pre, Musical Surroundings Nova Phono Pre and a BPT battery power supply for the Squeezebox. I've generally concluded that if you have clean AC power available to y...
Audio advancement - why? Undertow said:Advanced audio today has to do with cheaper, better, faster, more reliable ways to keep it in your house more than anything, along with heat and efficiency, reliability.I think this is the answer in a nutshell. I don't think the earl...
Buyers and Sellers ever Speak by Phone Anymore? When I first starting trading here, I liked to talk to the other party, but not so much any more. If the ad is thorough in its description of the item and has good photos, and assuming the seller has a good feedback history, I generally don't have...
Good "warm" CD player for $500 If you truly have a "bright" room, a new digital player is not going to fix it. Been there, done that, didn't help. You have to somehow soften the room or adjust your listening/speaker positioning. It's amazing how even small adjustments to toe-in...
Recommendations for good jazz radio stations TSF Jazz (89.9) out of France is excellent.
Music Server with no DAC? Similarly, I like the idea of the Logitech Transporter, but how about no DAC and drop the price in half or a bit more? Just have AES/EBU, S/PDIF and maybe optical out... Lightminer, you can always buy the Squeezebox 3 (aka Classic) for $300 and pr...
The Better My System Gets.... All of the above. I'm increasingly disappointed in live shows these days. More often than not the sound is poor, crowds are becoming more ill-mannered, half the audience is yapping on the phone, etc. I'm sure getting older is part of it, but the d...
speakers that rock Paradigm Studio 100's. Excellent value for the money and they are excellent for rock music (I own the Studio 60's). Heck, they even LOOK like they can rock!
after market battery power for DAC I would check with Chris Johnson at Balanced Power Technologies (BPT), Vinnie Rossi at Red Wine Audio, or Wayne at Bolder Cable. I know BPT and Red Wine build, or have built, battery supplies for squeezeboxes and Wayne does some mods for the trans...
Power Surge Damage The "surge" that most surge protection devices are designed to stop is the modest fluctuation in the power generated by your power company or, for example, the surge created when your power kicks back on after a unexpected power failure. I would b...
onkyo 805 vs 806 Athens, IMO, the Audyssey EQ works great on the 805. Dlcockrum, thanks for the distinction. I just didn't want the OP to get the impression that Audyssey was not included at all in the 805.
Tweaking My Setup I'm not so sure about number one. It seems that USB is all the rage these days, so I would suggest reading up on that a little more or, better yet, it's a cheap experiment to try both and see which works best.
Best intro to tube integrateds? My first tube amp was a Jolida 302 and I liked it a lot. Cayin and Prima Luna are other good choices. I believe the Prima Luna is auto bias (don't know about Cayin), whis is a plus. |
