Life beyond Jolida?
I went from the Jolida 302b and Jolida JD100 cd player, to a Cary SLI-80 integrated and Cary 308T cdp and experienced the improvements you are looking for. What is your source?
Digital music sales to outpace CD sales
My guess (as I haven't seen the articles mentioned) is that the growth of downloaded music is generated primarily by a small segment of the population, i.e. those 25 and under. The biggest obstacle to those in the music download business, will be ...
Why China Isnt Happening Yet
I recently read a NY Times article regarding the freight train that is the Chinese economy. Although China's current accounting principles make tracking their growth somewhat fuzzy, it is commonly believed that China's economy is now the fourth la...
Reliability of Cary Audio Products
I bought a used Cary SLI-80 here on Audiogon about a year ago. I've had a 308T cd player for about 6 mos. I've used both pretty much daily with zero problems, plus they sound great!
Musical Fidelity A3.2 v. tubed CD players
I can echo the findings of Robm321. I upgraded from the JD100 to a Cary 308T and the Cary has much better detail - in my system - than the Jolida. That being said, the Jolida is a great piece for half the money. FYI, I liked 5751 tubes in the Joli...
upgrade to the original birdland
Sean34, I note in your other thread ("taming female voice") you indicate that you have a "cheap toshiba transport". Before I invested in another DAC I believe I would address the cheap transport first. As the saying goes, "garbage in - garbage out...
"Off" vs. "Standby" and tube life
From the Cary Audio website:4. When is it best to turn my equipment off? This brings us to an ongoing debate. Which is better-leaving the product on 24 hours a day or turning it on and off? Both will shorten the life of your tubes. So what should y...
Acappella/Vocal Jazz/Gospel recommendations?
In the bluegrass/traditional genre, try Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. I know that they have at least one CD that is all accapella. Also, the Nashville Bluegrass Band and The Isaacs and good choices.
Your pick of CD player....
FWIW, I upgraded from a JD100 to the Cary 308T and - in my system - the Cary has been a nice upgrade. In my experience, the Cary is more detailed and generally speaking is just more "refined" than the Jolida. My system was suffering from a treble ...
well-recorded country music recommedation
Most of Alison Krauss' stuff is very well recorded and the instrumentation is all acoustic. No steel guitar, but you do have Jerry Douglas' awesome dobro on the last few recordings. Alison's most recent CD (Lonely Runs Both Ways) is excellent - bo...
Looking for CDP w/tube output and upsampling
I'm very happy with a Cary 308T, with tube output (12AU7 X 2), upsampling (that can be switched off), HDCD capable and variable output. You can find them new for about $2k and they should up used for much less. Good Luck!
Owners of Cary 308,308T, Arcam FMJ 33 or Ayre CX-7
I have the Cary 308t, which I upgraded to from a Jolida JD100. I suspect the Jolida and your CD-25 are comparable in cost/performance. In my system, the Cary maintains the warmth of the Jolida, but with much improved detail and clarity. I have bee...
CD Jewel cases - Over 20 years and no improvement
This is one of my pet peeves. Every time I open a new CD case for the first time, one of the hinges pops open and then it seems as though its prone to do so for the rest of its life.
Jolida JD100S and JD100H?
Do a search over at AA, there was talk on this "JD100s" a while back. As I recall a reputable Jolida dealer chimed in an advised that the JD100s was an overseas version of the JD100 and was generally inferior to the unit sold in the US. The JD100 ...
