How Do I Start Playing With the Big Boys and Girls Eldragon: Not sure what you're getting at, but I was really just trying to suggest to JCBACH that his search for the right equipment is more complex than ss vs. tube (or maybe you don't like the PS Audio product?); there will be surprises along th...
The Best System In The World Yeah, and in the words of Steve Martin, after all that, it probably STILL sounds like sh**! Ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!
Best blues guitarist, Clapton or Green You know I'm always astonished and even a little angered when talk of "best" blues guitarist begins with some British knock off. Now I know that I'm selling Clapton a little short, but he himself will be the first to acknowldge that he is more of ...
How Do I Start Playing With the Big Boys and Girls I have to agree with Sogood51. I have always liked my Mistral integrated amp but thought that I was missing something since I didn't have tubes (After all, I much prefer tube guitar amps over ss). But then I bought a PS Audio P300 Powerplant and p...
Blues instrumentals? FREDDIE KING!!!! Freddie basically made a signficant part of his career playing instrumentals. Many of them are excellent, and some are corny (like the surf stuff), but they all have his great playing. Hide Away, anyone??? 17 Hits, there's lots an...
Acoustic Bass, Trombone, and Baritone For bass, start checking out CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE!!! He's the MAN right now. Trombone: Julian Priester w/ David Holland. Bari--Cecil Payne's pretty hip. Hey, and don't forget Lisa Simpson ^_^
Good but not so well known harmonica blues bands. Try some Sugar Blue. Snooky Pryor--an underrated legend.
What's your profession? Age? Teacher. 36. $10K (retail) system. Married 5 years. Want kids (still trying) AND fine music!
Who is your overall favorite guitarist? Gotta plug Otis Rush. He always seems to have great phrasing.
Dave Holland's LPs Don't forget about Conference of the Birds! I have also really enjoyed Holland's work with alto sax player Steve Coleman. Another really good one is Jumpin In. These oughta hold ya!
Words From the Wise 1. Listen to the MUSIC, not the "system."2. Get good sources and fine wires to connect them to amps and preamps.3. More money isn't always the answer. Maybe you just need a bigger throw rug on a hardwood floor or a tapestry on a bare wall.4. Power...
Copper v. Silver I have found that my analog source does better with a pure copper IC. I tried the KK Silver Streak, which is a hybrid silver/copper design, but I found that the less expensive Hero complemented the tt better--the SSs offered a slightly increased s...
It's Been an Allison Kind of Month...... OH, I'm sorry. I thought y'all was talking about Luther and Bernard Allison. My mistake . . . ^_^
smallest highend manuf.of intergrated amp The Mistral Itegrated strikes a very slim profile. It's about 3" tall on its feet. I have really enjoyed mine for the last few months. You can get 'em used for about 650ish. Very nice little amp. Sweet and musical.
Separates vs. Integrated Let's talk money. For purposes of comparison, I'll use published MSRPs. A Rogue Audio 66 preamp magnum and a Rogue 88 magnum power amp is roughly $3,000. On the other hand, a Cary Audio SLI 80 runs about, well, wudda ya know, $3,000. So which is b... |
