Rega P5 Benz Micro Glider, Ace, or Stay w/Exact?
From my experience with my Benz cartridge, expect a significant improvement in the sound of your Glider around the 50 hour mark or so. It'll keep improving subtly after that, but the first 50 hours is a huge night-and-day improvement - the bass wi...
Jolida JD-100 vs. Ayre CX-7E
I am very happy with my CX-7e. It's the best player I've ever heard, but I haven't heard the Jolida. From everything I've read about the Jolida, you're not really comparing CDP's in the same class here...I would expect the Ayre will be far better....
Problem with Ayre C-7xe CD player?
I also bought a CX-7e about 6 months ago, and it too had the same symptoms the OP is describing. I went back to my dealer and requested a DOA replacement once I determined that it was a defect (ie, it was happening even on brand new discs with no ...
Naim CD 5X worth 2x the cost of the Naim CD5i-2?
Not having compared the 2 units, I would just like to say this: I've heard a variety of Naim electronics and CDP's over the years, and have noticed that they seem to have more than 1 "house sound". So I wouldn't be tempted to spend the money sight...
CD player to go with Simaudio I-7 integrated amp
I previously was running a Meridian 506.24, and am now running an Ayre CX-7e, into my I5.IMHO, the CX-7e is a far better match with the Sim. I can't imagine anybody who likes the Sim sound not liking the Ayre sound and vice versa - they have simil...
2 channel cd player xlr $2000-&3000 used or....
The Ayre CX-7e is fantastic...but I haven't listened critically to that many CDP's in this pricerange - just Simaudio, Naim and Ayre. IMHO, the Ayre is extremely well-balanced which makes it enjoyable to listen to with all genres of music and all ...
PS Audio P300 or Cardas Golden Reference?
My experience has been that improvements to power delivery are more noticeable than improvements on any other cabling. YMMV though.
ipod classic vs nano
I don't have a strong opinion, but I think general consensus is that the hard drive model sounds a bit better. To really test it out, you need to bring your own (good quality) earphones, and compare on lossless tracks. Meaning, it's impossible to ...
Which part reduces surface noise most?
I'm using the Benz L2...fantastic cartridge in my system. I can't say how it will do compared to a Ruby, because I have a policy: if I can't buy it, I don't audition it. I much prefer the L2 to the Glider that I once tried - the Glider had the sam...
$ 2500 -- Best Way to Spend It Today ?
+1 for the record cleaning machine. If you can, audition different tt's. You might like the Marantz TT-15 setup, which is made by Clearaudio and is around $1500 including a good cartridge...you might also like Rega, VPI, a used Basis, Michell, etc....
best used VPI table?
I actually compared the Gyro with the VPI - was using the Benz L2 cartridge if I remember correctly. There were a few different cartridges at the time of that audition (some Ortofon's and Benz's), but the L2 was my favorite. The Gyro had an RB300 ...
best used VPI table?
I find the Oracle's to be fairly nimble-sounding, with good balance top to bottom. They are good at getting the timing/pace of the music "right". They also have fantastic detail and tone in the bass regions.VPI's - Scout and Aries in particular, s...
best used VPI table?
Just a warning - having myself come from an Oracle Delphi Mk 1, make sure you've listened to VPI's sufficiently to determine that their sound - particularly the Scout/Aries series - is what you're looking for. It is very different from the sound t...
Can anyone recommend a Phono Pre Amp?
I am very happy with my Simaudio Moon LP5.3. Very quiet, natural, warm, detailed and rich. It goes for around $1K used on the 'gon.
iPod recommendations
Hi,I have an 80 GB iPod classic which sounds fantastic with lossless files and Etymotic ER4P earphones. IMHO, that combo is real hifi sound, just with a different "tone" than my main system, at an overall price that is very affordable. The early co...
