Are there any bookshelf speakers that sound good on a bookshelf? Proac Response 2 or 2R. Great speaker, with a front port. In my experience, anything with a rear port needs a foam plug when located in a bookshelf, and then the bass response rolls off, and then life becomes a little less enjoyable. I’m sure...
Need New 2 Channel System for under 25K I might need to revise my response, as I listen to a lot of recordings that a few of my clients would not recognize as "music", so easy access to the big, fat volume knob would be number 1. The subwoofer would be number 2. Sounding good a low vo...
Need New 2 Channel System for under 25K After my subwoofer, the second most important feature of my office system is a big, fat volume knob that I can reach from my computer when I answer the phone. Especially if I can't find the remote, or pause the DAC, etc. etc.
...bookshelf speakers that sound good at low volume... I totally agree with everyone who is taking about bass boost needed at low volume. If not, you really need a warm speaker. Proac 1sc were a classic for low volume. Older Dynaudios would be good, but the treble may sound muffled at low volume. ...
Think fast: What would you take? Best of luck, Oregon. While moving to the NW, we lost everything (mobile) to a RV fire at the 3-months point of a cross-county homeschool tragicomedy. Ended up running for our lives down 101 near Newport, in a snowstorm with no shoes or coats. We...
Amp Pairing for Aerial Acoustics 6Ts. A used Bel Canto C5i could work well, and it has a DAC. It’s what I have in my second system, and was an improvement over a Hegel H90.
Most organic / real / analogue sounding DAC (ideally with Volume Control) for $1500?????? I’ve had good luck with my used Bel Canto 2.7 DAC preamp. It has a KNOB. I don’t understand how anybody can live without a volume knob.
What was your most disappointing album purchase? Hard to decide betweeen Kajagoogoo or Wang Chung. It was a dark period, and I had to claw my way back.
Speaker cable arrows??? The wires were clearly mislabeled. If you want to reverse them now, you will need to burn them in. I recommend using a flux capacitor to align the quantum tunneling.
Anyone with tinnitus or hearing loss who is into "high-end" audio? rcprince: Yes, my diagnosis is Meniere's. But I think that diagnosis gets thrown at a collection of symptoms without an obvious cause. (ie. not having a tumor or physical ear damage) I have had a couple of different ENT's as I have moved aroun...
Anyone with tinnitus or hearing loss who is into "high-end" audio? I'm glad you made this post, and feel enlightened as to how many listeners are experiencing this. I have had significant tinnitus and hearing loss in one ear for over twenty years (the other ear is going strong). It was a radical paradigm shift:...

Whats playing on your system today? Torn Levin WhiteAnd a new album called MFTJ, which sounds like a Meyers-Briggs acronym, but OMFG these guys are good!It seems like everything from Lazy Bones Recordings is really heavy, in a good way. Phat.
~$6K mini-monitor recommendations? I would second the ProAc D2R. I have a pair in my office system. To me they are special. Fantastic in near field. Detailed but non-fatiguing.
