Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? What I understood from George's comments based on his experience was that bipolar designed circuits would not typically have a 100k input impedance and many examples of this design had less than the 47k ohm the LSA requires, in some cases signific...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? This is OK right? The Lightspeed is also a good preamp, but won’t win every a/b shootout right?Your thoughts?Of course it's okay and I wouldn't expect it to win every shootout. The fact it can favorably compete with preamps that cost at a minimum ...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? Banquo363,Steve builds quality products at great prices. I'd be surprised if you could hear a difference using his input selector. He uses quality parts and backs it up with a 30 day trial (stock units, not custom orders). I was pleasantly surpris...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? If you think this thread is long in the tooth go over to the one on DIYAudio. It makes this one read like a short story.
Music Reference RM Mono? Agree with Jaffeassc, speaker impedance curve would play a big part as to whether stereo or monoblocks would be needed.
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? It may be friendlier than tubes, but one weakness of the LSA is its one input design. I understand and appreciate the argument that more inputs would be sonically compromising, but if I didn't primarily use my turntable, I would find constantly sw...
Vibration Theory - Isolate or Drain? But I got a better result putting the CD player on a marble tile resting on 3 tungsten carbide ball bearing resting on 3 FIM saucers.Stanwal (System | Reviews | Threads | Answers | This Thread)I use the FIM saucers with tungsten carbide balls as w...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? I can't say for sure about the Samson, but my TRL D-225 which was the predecessor and stereo version of the monoblocks used bipolar transistors. Paul Weitzel told me he does not like FETs or MOSFETs. I do believe what Knghifi has reported is accur...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? I believe the TRL amps are over 47k ohms, somewhere in the 65k ohm range, maybe higher.
Music Reference RM Mono? Roger commented that he's had to return the last couple of batches of the Genelex reissues. I'm waiting for him to give the okay on the new batch he's testing. Nothing against Jim, but I'd prefer to buy from Roger since it's his amp.
Music Reference RM Mono? I have NOS Telefunken EL-84's and tried them in the RM-10. Roger's stock tubes were just as good sonically, and quieter to boot. I've never heard the Mullards, but for the cost I'll stand pat.
Music Reference RM Mono? The RM-10 power supply is overbuilt by a factor of 10x. I have to imagine the two channels can coexist just fine with something that overbuilt. Also, with Roger's custom written application for an EL-84 circuit (that generates 35 watts where other...
Music Reference RM Mono? I'm think another 3db is volume isn't going to make any difference to me, but....That's what Roger basically told me. My room is 18.5 x 14.75, and we listen to the same type of music. I'm even light loading mine and do not notice any side effects....
Power strip recommendation. The BPT Pure Power should satisfy your needs.
MM phono stage Graham Slee or K&K I believe there is a MM version of the K&K too. So you might want to consider that.I had the K&K and thought it was a great unit. Certainly a value at its price. Never heard the Graham so can't compare for you. |
