At what distance are balanced XLR cables needed? I have often marvelled at the fact that audiphiles are willing to pay large sums for cables, yet are often uninterested in a proven system that eliminates cable artifact altogether.Think of it this way. If you have two cables and one sounds better...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? I'll email you details on how to sign up. Hopefully, I've configured this thing to be pretty bug free, but it is software so I expect a few hiccups.
Subwoofers with Fritz Carbon 7's? We used the Carbon 7's in our 14 x 19 room at THE SHOW with 40 watt push-pull tube amps. While we had a sub, the Carbon 7's did fine on their own so we ran them without the sub. I'd recommend trying it that way first.
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? Lightspeeders, with George's permission I'll be starting a Lightspeed Owner forum on a web site I'm putting up. As soon as I create the forum I'd like for a few of us to run it through the paces to check for bugs. Anyone interested in being a beta...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? LOL. Great stuff.
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? Interesting comparison between running direct to amp and then via preamp. It appears darTZeel has done a good job implementing LDR technology into their peamp.
Why the obsession with the lowest octave However, this experience cannot be replicated in a home system, no matter how good it is, or how low the bass goes - unless you happen to live in the concert hall. You have to buy a ticket to experience that kind of truly deep bass.LearsfoolThat's...
At what distance are balanced XLR cables needed? I have heard significant differences between IC's in the critical line-stage to amp link with Audio Research, CAT, BAT, Aesthetix, Aria/Counterpoint, to name a few products. Are you claiming that the designers of these products are not competent t...
Tube Preamp suggestion for the uninitiated The tube preamps from Mapletree Audio are supposed to be very good for their price. Another Audiogon member I know well is using one and he's owned the likes of the top end CAT and Joule Electra preamps. Same would go with a company like Decware. ...
At what distance are balanced XLR cables needed? Atmasphere, whose opinion carries a lot of weight, has suggested that fancy wire is of little value in balanced interconnects. There is a little more to that statement than meets the eye. For example, Ralph indicates that the balanced cable used be...
Long Cables w/Short Speaker Cable or Vice Versa? Some cables such as OCOS are designed to be used in long runs. I use 5.5m lengh with no problems.
Joule Eletra LA 100 MKIII There is a bias setting in the preamp for the driver tubes (I believe batteries are involved) and the manual discusses how the bias is set at the factory. IIRC the manual also states that changing the bias can allow one to tailor the sound a bit. ...
stepped attenuators Everything has to go through the volume control, attenuator.Yes obviously the signal goes through the switch. What I meant was that in an LDR design the sonic signature of the switch itself is not imparted in the signal. A Radio Shack switch works...
i need 20 meter speaker wire, decent quality Al brings up good points. I use OCOS for a 5.5m run and have no problems with it. I have used Alpha Core MI-2 Veracity and feel it is one of the best values in audio. However, with solid state amps (and to be safe tube amps as well) it is best to ...
stepped attenuators I know there's more to this unit than the volume control but I feel it must have a huge influence on the sound quality. How do you feel about them? All switches impart a sonic signature. It has to do with diode effect. I suspect the reason you're en... |
